SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Serena Salerno & Deber
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Serena Salerno & Deber\nOpening Reception | First Friday November 1st\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through November 24th\, 2024. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nSERENA SALERNO \nMy art is all about the bright colors and energy of nature\, combining vivid acrylic paints with a playful imagination. I draw endless inspiration from sea creatures and animals on land\, bringing them to life in a way that feels both magical and lively. The bold colors in my work aim to capture the unique beauty of these creatures. \nI also love adding cartoon characters to my art\, which brings a fun touch to my paintings. This mix of real-life animals and playful\, animated elements creates a unique style that invites viewers to see these creatures in a new and exciting way. \nThrough my paintings\, I want to offer a joyful escape where colors and shapes come together to celebrate the wonder of nature. My goal is to connect with viewers and make them see the natural world in a fresh\, vibrant\, life. \nSee more of Serena’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jujuoctopus/ \nEMMANUEL CAMPOS PEREZ (DEBER) \nMy artwork is abstracted personal storytelling. A mix of mediums\, mainly spray paint and acrylics. Graffiti art permeates all my work\, and the themes I try to communicate with it. I try to convey a feeling more than a straightforward message. \nI am inspired by many friends that share a lifelong dedication to Graffiti as an art form\, as well as many Old Western artists. \nI have dedicated most of my life to painting Graffiti\, and I will always strive to paint more and more of it. I see my Canvas paintings as another way of exercising my craft and projecting the aesthetics and skills I have learned for a broader audience. \nTo me Art is not means to an end\, is the end itself. \nI started painting graffiti and murals in Chihuahua Mexico at the age of 13\, and from there on it has been a constant part of life. Now I want to share with the public a window into the ideas that keep me passionate and compromised to this craft. \nSee more of Emmanuel’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/deber614/ \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Alexandria Olthoff & Emily Ritter
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Alexandria Olthoff & Emily Ritter\nOpening Reception | First Friday October 4th\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through October 20th\, 2024. Art House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nALEXANDRIA OLTHOFF \nMy name is Alexandria or “Ali\,” a local to the Wichita area but have experienced & lived in many other locations. I have been painting\, drawing and creating for 16 plus years. \nAnimals have always held a special place in my soul\, real or mythical\, they fascinate & inspire me endlessly. \nWhile animals are a central theme in my art\, my creative process is also a vehicle for navigating difficult emotions & challenging times\, both personal and in the world. \nI work across various mediums – acrylic\, oil\, watercolor\, pencil & colored pencil\, each offering its own unique language. The journey of learning and growth in my art is extremely fulfilling when I look back at how far I’ve come. \nAs an artist my aspiration is two-fold: to sustain myself doing what I love and to make art that is accessible to everyone who finds joy and/or solace in it. Balancing these two things is not always easy but a challenge I choose to embrace with humility and determination. \nBeyond art I find joy in time spent with my pets\, kayaking\, dancing\, adventuring with my husband\, trying not to kill my plants and savoring the art of doing nothing at all. \nI invite you to check out my website where you will find my social links and a deeper glimpse into my artistic journey. Thank you for being here\, for lending your eyes\, for being a part of making my art visible. \n-Alikat \nSee more of Alexandria’s work online: https://linktr.ee/alexandriaolthoff \, on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alikatart7 \, on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AlikatArtBiz \, and on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@alikatart7 \nEMILY RITTER \nBio: Emily E. Ritter is an multidisciplinary artist currently living in Kansas. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with an emphasis in Printmaking from Wichita State University in 2012. After graduating\, Ritter was an Intern-in-Residence at Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale\, NY in 2014. She received her Master’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Arizona State University in 2018. Ritter’s work explores various ecological themes\, ranging from illustrations of native Kansas flora and fauna to sculptural narratives of potential ecological futures. She has exhibited her work locally\, nationally\, and internationally. Ritter is currently the Assistant Professor of Digital Design at Newman University in Wichita\, KS. \nArtist Statement: Mark-making and texture have always been central to my artistic practice\, serving as both a creative expression and a meditative practice. The repetitive act of creating intricate details\, often in the form of fur\, became a therapeutic ritual for me during times of stress. This body of work began as an exploration of letting go—abandoning the pursuit of perfect\, realistic wildlife portraits in favor of embracing the calming “doodles” that I would instinctively create. My goal was to create a surreal and abstract world of “fur creatures\,” inspired by my deep connection to the natural world. \nAs I developed this series\, a significant life event shifted its direction\, leading to the most personal work I’ve ever created. I began to merge my abstract\, nature-inspired illustrations with emotion drawings and emotions tracking\,—a process that helped me navigate the profound and sudden changes in my life. This fusion resulted in a mythical world of “fur creatures” with greater depth and meaning. \nEmotions are not exclusive to humans; they permeate the natural world in ways that are both subtle and profound. Flora and fauna each express emotions in their own unique ways\, reflecting the complex emotional landscapes we often attribute solely to ourselves. Plants that have stunted growth from stress or release pheromones when damaged\, insects that learn behaviors from pleasure or pain\, crows remembering when you have done them wrong\, frantic gosling parents trying to save their chick that was hit by a car\, or your dog being excited for you to come home. All of these examples speak to a shared emotional experience of the world\, and how different species use their emotions to help them navigate it. This is something I kept in mind while I surrounded myself with nature to help me navigate my new life trajectory. \nFor me\, this process has been a form of art therapy—a way to process my emotions\, understand them better\, and draw joy from nature. While I do not wish the emotional turmoil I have faced upon anyone\, I do hope you find a personal connection to these pieces. My hope is that you leave this exhibition feeling seen\, understanding that you are not alone in your experiences. While each journey is unique\, our emotions connect us all. \nSee more of Emily’s work online: https://www.emilyeritter.com/  and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emilyeritterart  \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Five Artists Show
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Five Artists Show\nOpening Reception | First Friday September 6th\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through September 22nd\, 2024. Art House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nParticipating Artists:\nMATTHEW HILYARD\nCLINTON WILLIS\nDAVID PETTY\nJEREMY WILLIAMS\nTIMOTHY REAMES \nArtist Statements:\nMATTHEW HILYARD \nMy work aligns itself in the liminal space between disciplines. With a wide range of mediums. \nWorking what comes to hand: discarded remnants of trades & the everyday. This eclectic approach to materiality encapsulates the notion of wayfaring\, following the materials rather then traveling a fixed path. \nI always investigate the art as an object premise and through this practice I aim to find a balance between artist led intervention\, networked assemblage and material agency. Materiality allows me to consider painting as a set of possibilities rather than a medium in stasis. \nSee more of Matthew’s work on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/matthewhilyardart15/. \nCLINTON WILLIS \n\n\n\n\nMy art is an homage or a love letter to the art movements of German Expressionism \nand Fauvism. Both of these movements began in the early 20th century but faded over time like many other art movements of the past. \nWhen I paint an expressionist or fauvist piece\, I do not want to add any kind of modern flair to the work. Rather than reinventing the two art movements I want to study them and try as best as I can to capture the expressionist and fauvist spirit. I want my work to look and feel old as if it was done between the 1920s -1940s when German Expressionism and Fauvism were thriving. \nIf one has never heard of Fauvism or German Expressionism know that they can both be summarized as diving into bold and vibrant colors and the work made is not based on or guided by realism principles but emotion. \nSee more of Clintons’s work on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/clinton.tarantino/. \nDAVID PETTY \n\n\n\n\n“I am David Petty\, a mixed-media artist specializing in abstract compositions that explore the intersection of layered collage and various mark-making techniques. My work combines these elements to evoke a profound sense of nostalgia\, inviting viewers to connect with the past through textured and dynamic visuals. Often inspired by old paper and illustrations\, my pieces reinterpret these materials\, giving them new life and context. \nMy artistic journey began with a fascination for vintage ephemera and the stories they hold. I am particularly drawn to the tactile qualities of aged paper\, weathered photographs\, and antique illustrations\, which I incorporate into my work to create a dialogue between the past and the present. Through layering and manipulation\, I aim to uncover hidden narratives and evoke emotions tied to memory and time. \nThe process of creating my art is both intuitive and deliberate. I start by selecting materials that resonate with my current themes\, often scavenging for unique textures and patterns. Mark-making techniques\, such as drawing\, painting\, and scratching\, are then applied to build complexity and depth within the composition. Each mark is a testament to the passage of time\, reflecting the gradual accumulation of experiences and memories. \nThemes of nostalgia\, memory\, and the passage of time are central to my work. I strive to create pieces that not only capture the essence of bygone eras but also invite viewers to reflect on their own personal histories. By juxtaposing contemporary elements with historical references\, I seek to bridge the gap between the past and the present\, offering a space for contemplation and connection. \nUltimately\, my goal is to create art that resonates on a deeply personal level\, sparking a sense of recognition and reminiscence. Through my mixed-media practice\, I hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of the past while embracing the present and future.” \nSee more of David’s work on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/davidapetty/. \nJEREMY WILLIAMS \n\n\n\n\nI’ve always had an interest in how design elements interact with each other\, and by implementing various materials\, I’ve embraced the seemingly infinite possibilities of mixed media. I’m constantly evaluating what my piece “needs” in order to achieve the “variety within unity” mantra. “Dimensional” painting has become my focus\, honing my style\, while still being flexible enough to explore different techniques. \nI enjoy employing deep/hidden concepts into my work\, as I have a somewhat-cryptic mind. The title can aid the viewer to have the “aha” moment\, for what the work is about\, but those concepts are not the priority. I strive to provide solid design\, as my primary motive is of viewer experience\, to be creative and innovative\, and hold their attention. \nMy love of abstract is rooted not only in design\, but also in the opportunity to connect with the viewer in a unique way. \nSee more of Jeremy’s work on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/jerillium/. \nTIMOTHY REAMES \n\n\n\n\nMy artwork is a dialogue between realism and abstraction\, rendered through the vibrant medium of acrylic paint on canvas. I am deeply influenced by my experiences in the military and my travels around the globe\, which have profoundly shaped my understanding of emotion and color. \nIn my realistic animal portraits\, I strive to capture the essence and intricacy of each animal\, starting with the eyes. Each piece is a meticulous exploration of form and texture\, reflecting my fascination with the natural world. Through detailed brushwork and a focus on accuracy\, I aim to evoke a sense of connection and reverence for the beautiful animals that share our planet. \nConversely\, my abstract work is a personal journey into the realm of color and emotion. I select hues that resonate with me on a visceral level\, and my compositions emerge from the interplay between these colors and the feelings they provoke. This intuitive approach allows me to explore and express complex emotional landscapes\, informed by my diverse experiences. \nMy creative process is immersive and intense. Once I conceive an idea\, I dedicate myself to it wholly\, often working for days or even weeks until the piece feels complete. This dedication reflects my commitment to capturing and conveying the depth of my experiences and emotions through art. \nUltimately\, my work is an exploration of the intersection between the tangible and the intangible. It is a quest to convey the profound impact of my experiences and the nuanced spectrum of emotions that arise from them. Through both realism and abstraction\, I seek to invite viewers into a space of contemplation and connection. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Tara Hufford Walker & Mark Walker
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Tara Hufford Walker & Mark Walker\nOpening Reception | First Friday August 2nd\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through August 24th\, 2024. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nTARA HUFFORD WALKER \nBright colors\, intense contrast\, and shadows – I like art that shouts at you\, and draws the viewer in. I like art that makes one linger and ask\, “is there a story there?” I also appreciate figurative imagery and subject matter – art that looks real\, that demonstrates the artists appreciation for technical skill. I try to not shy away from things like teeth and hands\, but embrace the opportunity to challenge myself – to better my craft. \nI have been inspired by artists such as Caravaggio\, and Philip Pearlstein with their extreme figurative poses\, the lights and darks\, the great painterly prowess. I also love the surreal artists such as Salvador Dali -his creepy\, whimsical imagery – painted realistically\, but in a dreamlike nonsensical way. Then there are the pop artists with their bright paint and shiny colors that make me smile and inspired to paint. Andy Warhol\, Jeff Koons\, James Rosenquist\, Wayne Thiebaud – so many!  I’m always on the lookout for things\, and people that make me think – “I want to paint that!!!” \nSee more of Tara’s work on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TaraHuffordWalkerArtist \nMARK WALKER \nI grew up loving watching my dad take photos of weddings in the 60s\, a supplemental income from his day job. Spending nights in the darkroom with him … watching and looking at lots of photo magazines around the house. I Started taking more slide photos of my own more in 70s. Then In the 90s along came digital and I was intrigued in the prospect of manipulation. \nNow comes smartphones and it’s just amazing what can be done. I have been taking photos for 50 years. Smartphone apps and lenses have made the amount of work and time much quicker. You can take and hold thousands of pics on your phone. I fuse them much as old double exposure used to but in an instant. Today I’m fusing 4 to 5 photo layers together using photos of my surroundings. I prefer the square format and still like smaller and larger pixel size when printing depending on exhibit. \nI refer to myself as a self-taught Multi-Media Artist\, because I also enjoy making art assemblages made of recycled materials\, plus Experimenting rock music with video and guitar. \nI moved to Wichita in 1974\, worked at Wichita Art Association (Center for The Arts) for 17 years\, USD259\, Gallery Goon 16 years at Go Away Garage\, and 15 years currently at Vertigo 232 Gallery\, Founder\, Director\, Gallery Curator.  I have been in gallery art exhibits around the state of Kansas since 1998. I am also a founding member of Artist Group “ Id…ology” (a group of 7 artists that makes art with recycled materials). I hope you enjoy my phone photos and thank you for your support of the arts in Wichita. \nSee more of Mark’s work on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MarkWalkerArtistMusic and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/mswalk5art. \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Tarah Lynn Clark & Lari Howard
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Tarah Lynn Clark & Lari Howard\nOpening Reception | First Friday July 5th\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through July 21st\, 2024. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nTARAH LYNN CLARK \n“Nature’s Contrast” is a collection of work which explores the vibrance of nature from my point of view. \nI’ve been painting colorful florals\, landscapes\, and creatures that surround me here in Kansas. They have inspired me to capture and push the limits of their beauty with vibrant colors of flowing acrylic paint. Doing this allows me to give the piece a raw movement\, like it would have naturally\, but from my perspective. \nOnce the movement of the piece begins\, I layer on defined dark contour lines of India Ink\, expanding on the textured contrast details that organically appear. \nThese statement pieces breathe life and beauty into a space and I’m glad to be able to bring them to you. \nSee more of Tarah’s work online at https://www.tarahlynncreations.com\, on Facebook at https://facebook.com/tarahlynncreations\, and on Instagram at https://instagram.com/tarahlynncreations. \nLARI HOWARD \nI know there is a scientific explanation for how we see light and color.  But how do you explain the magic of the iridescent flash of a hummingbird’s wing\, the diamond sparkle of dew on a flower in the morning sunlight\, the mystery in a cast shadow or that rich golden glow at dusk?  The allure of trying to capture these moments is too great\, too tempting for me to ignore.  I am bewitched.  I want my paintings to be an invitation to join me along a forest path to a hidden clearing and a secret garden where we might see the wonder of spring’s first blossom.  Art can inform and make us think\, but it should delight and surprise us sometimes too. \nLari has always loved art\, probably from the first crayon placed in her hand.  In college she took art at Southwestern Oklahoma State University\, then various classes and workshops whenever possible.  Life and moving every few years often interfered\, but with retirement she has renewed her commitment to painting.  Lari has taken workshops and studied under the following artists; Cecy Turner\, Naomi Brotherton\, Walt Davis\, Michael Holter and Stephen Zhang to name a few.  New to Kansas but excited about the art scene in Wichita\, she is a member of the Kansas Art Guild and Wichita Fine Arts Atelier studying under Vincent Woods and Don Praseuth.  She recently participated in the Riverfest Plein Air competition winning Third Place overall. \nSee more of Lari’s work on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/lari.howard/\, and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/larieh2023. \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Madison Mullen & Brittany Schaar
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Madison Mullen & Brittany Schaar\nOpening Reception | First Friday May 3rd\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through May 26th\, 2024. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nMADISON MULLEN \nIn my ongoing exploration of the portrayal of the female body and experience in the art world\, I create work that depicts the female experience from multiple angles. \nI explore many methods of both capturing and curating the intimate female perspective. My methods and mediums have traversed varying phases. Utilizing printed media\, I draw parallels between portrayals of violence against women in media and real-life acts of violence. \nOperating under the belief that the romanticism of sex and violence in pop culture desensitizes society to the severity of such issues. Contrasting to the use of media imagery\, I create work exempt from the female form\, utilizing animals in place of women\, operating under the belief that the representation of the female body is inherently sexualized and therefore corrupt. \nAdditionally\, I draw reference to historical portrayals of women and reclaim the narrative and symbolism of the female form whilst exposing the dreadful history of female exploitation. \nSee more of Madison’s work online at https://www.madisonmullenart.com/ and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/madisonmullen_art/ \nBRITTANY SCHAAR \n“Windows/ Komorebi”\nA letter on “windows / komorebi” \nThink of something said to you\, a gesture\, moment or your surroundings. At any age\, pick your favorites; the defining moments\, the joyful ones\, the hard-lessons-learned ones. \nWhat you see are moments and memories of mine\, windows into my life\, into feelings and connections or pauses of free fall in between hugs and conscious thought. Nostalgia is so important\, these are the things we lean on when all else is passing. \nSo hang on to your playful shadows\, feelings and memories. Be both immersed and grateful\, but note that you have survived all your days so far\, so being present is the best medicine to create new windows. Komorebi is the energy of of being present and re-energizing in sun rays\, a kind of pause before you move on. \nYou notice komorebi as sun filtering through trees as you walk\, or drive\, and that feeling of joy in realizing you get to be here. Thank you. \nSee more of Brittany’s work on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brittanyschaarart and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brittanyschaarart/ \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Dennis McPhail & Jason Crile
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Dennis McPhail & Jason Crile\nOpening Reception | First Friday April 5th\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through April 21st\, 2024.\nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nDENNIS MCPHAIL \nDennis McPhail is an artist and tattoo artist from Wichita\, Kansas. \nBorn in 1965\, Dennis was heavily influenced by comic books\, horror movies\, album covers\, and the hotrod car culture. \nDennis’ primary choice of mediums are ink and brush\, colored pencil\, and enamel paints. Dennis has been tattooing since 1998. The combination of these influences and mediums result in Dennis’ work that embodies his vision of “Kustom Kuture” art. \nDriven By Blacklines – Familiar images from the Kustom Kulture \nBlack outlines are always a presence in my art. The influence of early 70’s comics like Batman\, and “creepy” and “eerie” magazines hardened an impression on my young mind. Combine that with Hotrood magazines\, cartoon magazines\, and t-shirt art by Ed ‘Big Daddy’ Roth and Robert Williams\, left an indelible impression on my young mind. \nI wanted the work in this show to reflect the many images that are familiar to traditional car culture and ‘lowbrow art’. Most of these pieces were done between November 2023 and just a couple of weeks ago. This is my first solo show\, and I was driven to accomplish a wide range of my styles\, mediums and presentations. \nSee more of Dennis’ work online at https://dennismcphail.bigcartel.com/ on Facebook: facebook.com/dennis.mcphail and on Instagram: instagram.com/famousmcphail \nJASON CRILE \nI wanted to do something new\, something I hadn’t seen before. Inspired by light painting—long-exposure photographs that manipulate light sources in dark spaces—I spent $30 on two three-packs of laser pointers\, each containing one red\, one green\, one purple\, and began experimenting. \nMy first experiments were literally fumbling in the dark. With no guidebook to turn to\, I had to create a vocabulary for the work as I went. It also needed to create a space for the work. \nThe exposure lengths required a perfectly black space\, completely devoid of light leaks. This led to me building “The Void”—the space I needed to create the images before you. \nI started with objects I found at home\, a plant\, a skull\, an umbrella\, a typewriter. As I began to refine my technique\, I moved on to bottles and glassware\, and then to portraiture. \nEach new subject brought with it new challenges and rewards. I discovered that by changing the camera’s orientation to the objects while illuminating them with precise angles of laser light revealed their natural topography in three dimensions. \nSo here I present my journey to date in this medium\, from household objects to glassware and people. This project has been a source of continuous inspiration to me\, and I hope it will serve to remind the viewer that there is always a new way to look at things! \nSee more of Jason’s work on Facebook: facebook.com/jason.crile and on Instagram: instagram.com/jasoncrile \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Rachel Hermes & Sara Grant
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Rachel Hermes & Sara Grant\nOpening Reception | First Friday March 1st\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through March 24th\, 2024. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nRACHEL HERMES \nExploring the transient\, fragile nature of the human experience\, my work focuses on the cycle of life and death as an integrally tied aspect of our relationship with nature. Subjects are often depicted in vulnerable positions with faces obscured\, surrounded by plants and leaves\, or ambiguous forms. Untamed growth and decay encroach on figure and ground\, referencing the inevitable passage of time and the liminal state before regeneration begins. Nature is employed as a variable entity that overwhelms. \nMy work fluctuates between depicting a perception of my own reality that is distorted by shame and fear\, and an imagined ideal steeped in fantasy. The juxtaposition of these two concepts creates tension as I create the work. I experience an unrelenting pull to balance the ugly or unsettling with the beautiful – bitter disreality and a deep longing for something better. In this way\, my work alternately acts as a vessel for escapism and as a method of intrinsic exploration. Figures reside in isolated\, vaguely otherworldly bubbles\, shielded from reality. \nPlacelessness and isolation are strong themes in my work. I often feel a lack of belonging\, and that disconnectedness is mirrored by the solo figures and their highly ambiguous surroundings. The plants\, leaves\, and vines are intended to read as a marked cadence of slow growth that will render the subjects increasingly entombed as time wears on. As the figures seem unaware of the impending intrusion of plant life and its inevitable ensnarement\, a parallel may be drawn to the slow\, but steady toll taken from living in a morally challenging and psychologically draining technological world. \nSee more of Rachel’s work online at https://rachelhermes.com/ on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rachelhermesart/ and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rehermesart/ \nSARA GRANT \nSara Grant is a Midwest based\, visual artist and mother of three. She has two boys and a girl. Being a mother is her ultimate joy\, but her art is where she is able to find her peace. Her current medium of choice is color pencil. Throughout her life\, she has also enjoyed working with mixed media\, clay and her first love photography. \nSara has had a lifelong passion for art. In her most recent body of work\, she focuses on emotionalism with a realistic drawing style. She is currently working from her studio for upcoming shows. She is looking forward to the future and her continuing evolution as an artist. \nSee more of Sara’s work online at https://www.sgrantatelier.com/ on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100085041624491 and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sgrantatelier \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Ellen Mosiman & Dustin Youngman
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Ellen Mosiman & Dustin Youngman\nOpening Reception | First Friday February 2nd\, 2024 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through February 18th\, 2024. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nELLEN MOSIMAN \nHaving gained a reputation in elementary school as “the girl who draws cats” I realized I’d found my niche and never looked back. \nI grew up on a farm surrounded by animals and nature\, and because of this I’ve naturally gravitated towards those subject matters when I sit down at the computer to draw. My goal is to make work that is fun\, full of color\, and whimsical; something that my childhood self would really get a kick out of\, and hope that they make the viewer smile as well. \nSee more of Ellen’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ellenmosiman \nDUSTIN YOUNGMAN \nGrowing up in Kansas\, I always wanted to be a cowboy. The freedom\, the daring\, and the toughness of a cowboy always called to me whenever I wanted to imagine a game to play with myself. For this show I wanted to showcase cowboys in a medium that a true cowboy would enjoy at a saloon – a deck of playing cards. In this project\, I enjoyed the challenge of balancing simplification of form for the characters as well as the maximalism of playing card decoration. \nSee more of Dustin’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dustin_youngman \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Tania Pemar & Dominique Joiner
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Tania Pemar & Dominique Joiner\nOpening Reception | First Friday December 1st\, 2023 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through December 24th\, 2023. Art House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nTANIA PEMAR \nTania Pemar is a freelance artist living and working just outside of Wichita\, KS. \nTania has always been enthralled by the experience of art making itself. The feeling of her hands engaging with the materials\, the moments before and after mark making\, and the subtle shifts in seeing the natural world around her. Her work is the accumulation of: feelings\, memories\, landscape\, subconscious and conscious thoughts that form into colors and shapes that she interacts with on canvas. Her work is primarily driven by the way she experiences the world visually\, through the mental notes she takes as she goes about her day to day. Another key part to her practice is the fact she has grown up surrounded by the landscape of the coast and this is a major theme that continues to bring life and vision to her work. \nTania is passionate about the unique and integral impact artwork can have within a space. She believes that art can be a fulfilling experience in the spaces we dwell. \nSee more of Tania’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/taniapemar/ \nDOMINIQUE JOINER \nDominique Joiner (b 1988 Wichita\, Kansas) uses her chosen mediums of acrylic and oils to identify the experience of women in a male dominated society. Dominique has observed the lives of many women from several walks of life and uses the influence of these women to relay her narrative. She uses the ideals of sensuality and affection to draw the viewer in and coaxes them to become more aware with riveting details and underlying messages. Dominique has a goal of pressing women to gain more ipseity\, regardless of the rhetoric they are taught to the contrary. \nIpseity starts with awareness\, the doorway to change. Many of the artist’s paintings directly depict the chosen problem\, with no offer of a solution\, forcing the viewer to digest and relate. The use of golden accents is meant to show a sense of majesty and divinity that women carry\, regardless of the situation\, be it vulnerable or powerful. As the gateway to life\, women deserve to be viewed as such. Dominique’s art will encourage individuals to search inwardly and come to peace with their feelings. \nSee more of Dominque’s work on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DomiiiJo on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/domiijo/ and on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@domiijo \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

Johnico looks at Native art as a way to keep Native American history alive while presenting the culture in a new way and promoting space for future Native artists to continue the move. \nJosh Johnico (Choctaw\, Hopi) is a contemporary artist based out of Wichita\, KS. While Josh has always had a proclivity to art\, his career truly began during his time in college and has expanded into a portfolio of loud visuals and melodies of color on canvas. Witnessing these unique connections is one of the most rewarding aspects of my artistic journey. \nBorn and raised in Wichita\, Kansas\, I graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts\, specializing in marketing\, design\, illustration\, and painting. Over the years\, I have honed my skills and applied them in various roles\, including working for ad agencies\, aviation companies\, and running my own illustration business. Notably\, my work has been recognized on a national level through collaborations with esteemed companies such as Coca Cola\, Merck Pharmaceuticals\, Pizza Hut\, The Coleman Company\, and The Wall Street Journal. Currently\, I serve as a full-time lead designer for Spirit AeroSystems\, Inc.\, while also pursuing my passion as an illustrator. \nIn my artistic practice\, I utilize my extensive creative background to produce captivating artworks characterized by vibrant colors and fluid brushwork. Acrylic paint is my preferred medium due to its quick drying time\, allowing for the spontaneous expression that defines my style. Alongside brushes\, I also employ palette knives and other materials to create textured surfaces and dynamic compositions. It is immensely gratifying to witness the recognition and widespread purchase of my abstract works throughout the United States. \nFor an immersive experience of my latest paintings\, I invite you to follow me on Instagram @timwebbart\, where I share ongoing updates and thoughts. My Instagram account is a hub for artists\, makers\, and art enthusiasts\, and I would be thrilled to have you join the community. New directions\, new techniques\, pushing the boundaries\, and experimental ideas are always there\, pollinating\, ready to try. As Life itself develops from phases and segments of time\, these works emerge as I play and explore. \nSee more of Malissa’s work online: https://www.mlwear.com/ on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mlssfshn on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mlssfshn and on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MalissaLongWear \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Shelby Robertson & Sierra Swift\nOpening Reception | First Friday August 4th\, 2023 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through August 20th\, 2023. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nSHELBY ROBERTSON \nShelby Robertson’s art focuses on portraying mental and physical illnesses through conceptual illustrations. \nThey mainly use traditional mediums to create their work. They focus on pen and ink because they feel like the stark contrast between black and white can help to leave a stronger impression and benefits the subject matter. \nA majority of their work is an outlet as a way for them to express themselves without having to talk about it. Some of their pieces are understandable while others are vague\, but all of the pieces have meaning. If you get it you get it\, and if you don’t\, you don’t. Pain is not something that can be simplified into a few words\, and it is different for everyone. Hopefully\, these illustrations are able to convey these issues in a way that is accessible to anyone. \nSee more of Shelby’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drawingwoe/ \nSIERRA SWIFT \nSierra Swift is a representational artist who primarily works in digital mediums\, though will also work in paint\, ink\, and watercolors to create traditional art pieces. \nHer work is meant to reflect the comforts and joy in life\, despite the pain and despair that often surrounds it. Her artwork is often focused on beautiful things and looks to capture on canvas and print subjects that spark comfort. \nThis body of work she has created are portraits that represent in one way or another the cats in her life. Some pieces are meant to elicit grins\, and some are more serious\, but each are meant to be love letters to the animals that have brought joy during despair. \nSee more of Sierra’s work online at https://sierraswift.wixsite.com/moopledoodles and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mooplethemarsh/ \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Chris Ramirez
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Chris Ramirez\nOpening Reception | First Friday June 2nd\, 2023 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through June 25th\, 2023. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nCHRIS RAMIREZ \nAs an artist\, I am driven by a constant desire to explore and experiment with new ideas\, techniques\, and mediums. I believe that art is not just a form of self-expression\, but a powerful tool for communicating complex ideas\, emotions\, and perspectives that are often difficult to put into words. \nOne of the key themes that runs throughout my work is the tension between order and chaos\, and the ways in which these opposing forces can collide and intersect to create something truly unique and beautiful. This is why I am so drawn to occult images and mythologies. These images project ideas and symbols embedded deep in our psyche and collective unconsciousness. \nI strive to create pieces that challenge the viewer’s expectations\, encouraging them to see the world from a different perspective and to question the boundaries between reality\, imagination\, the sublime and banal. \nAt the heart of my artistic practice is a deep sense of curiosity\, wonder\, and exploration. Whether working in painting\, sculpture\, or other forms of media\, I believe that every piece of art has the power to inspire\, connect\, and transform the viewer in profound and meaningful ways. \nSee more of Chris’ work online at https://chrisramirezart.com/ and on Instagram: @chrisramirezart  \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nAIDA BELL \nAida Bell is an abstract figurative artist; Over the years\, she has developed exceptional sculpted work using her unique mixed media techniques. \nShe aims to depict beauty through a combination of color\, texture and shapes with always a touch of silver or gold\, it adds “Ce je ne sais quoi” as she likes to say. \nSee more of Aida’s work online at aidabellart.com\, and on Instagram: @aidabellart \nKELLY RUNDELL \nMy art is all about me having fun. I’m naturally drawn to straight lines\, strong colors and very defined shapes. Within the confines of those shapes\, I enjoy playing with paint. I challenge myself to figure out ways to make paint do different things. Recently\, I’ve been exploring how to build texture with acrylic paint. \nThe answers to the most frequently asked questions about my art are: \n\nI never have a plan. I just start painting. I don’t limit my imagination and just let the piece evolve.\nI don’t use a ruler or measure things.\nI very rarely use a paint brush. I mostly paint with my fingers. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Jae Lear & Patrick Heath
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Jae Lear & Patrick Heath\nOpening Reception | First Friday April 7th\, 2023 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through April 23rd\, 2023. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nJAE LEAR \nI am an artist who has always found joy and inspiration in the world of creativity. From my earliest days in grade school\, I eagerly anticipated the weekly art class\, where I could immerse myself in my own imagination and bring my ideas to life. Over time\, I honed my skills in a variety of mediums\, including graphite\, charcoal\, pastels\, colored pencils\, markers\, inks\, acrylics\, watercolors\, and hand-built ceramics. Under the guidance of high school art teachers Sergio Ramirez\, Brian Hutchinson\, and Greg Maxwell\, I discovered my passion for art and knew that it would be a lifelong pursuit. \nAfter graduating from Barton Community College in 2020\, I moved to Wichita\, Kansas\, with the intention of starting my own art business in a vibrant\, urban environment. It was there that I discovered the incredible sense of acceptance\, love\, success\, and camaraderie that exists within Wichita’s queer and neurodivergent community. This community has provided me with the support and encouragement I need to continue pursuing my passion for art and making a positive impact on the world around me. \nIn the past year\, my artwork has focused on the power of tactile experiences and repetitive patterns. By incorporating heavy texture acrylic paints into my pieces\, I invite viewers to engage with my art in a way that is both visual and physical. The act of repetitive touching or other sensory actions is referred to as stimming\, and it is an important tool for managing emotional dysregulation among neurodivergent people. My art provides a self-regulatory tool that is accessible to everyone\, regardless of their background or experiences. Through my work\, I hope to create a space that is welcoming and inclusive to all\, and that promotes the importance of self-care and self-expression. \nWorking with local non-profits such as OpenStudios and Wichita Pride has given me the opportunity to engage with my community in meaningful ways and grow as a person. Through advocacy events and accessible artwork\, I strive to promote a message of acceptance\, love\, and solidarity for all. Wichita’s young population of artists provides an endless source of inspiration and friendship\, and I am proud to be a part of this thriving community. \nSee more of Jae’s work online at LearHeathStudio.com\, on Instagram: @LearHeathStudio\, and @j.a.e.creative \nPATRICK HEATH \nThe 2000s was a transformative period for many young creatives like myself. The emergence of new technology provided many new platforms for artistic expression\, and I consider myself lucky to have grown up during such an innovative and exciting time. My artwork is a manifestation of the inner child that is still present within me. It reflects the type of nostalgic media that my peers can appreciate. I am passionate about uplifting my fellow creatives and celebrating the power of art to connect us all. This is why I am excited to present my artwork at Arthouse 310\, a gallery that is dedicated to giving back to the Wichita art community. \nArt has been an essential part of my life since I was young. I was fortunate enough to learn basic artistic principles at a very young age\, which gave me a lot of time to practice and perfect my drawing process. During high school\, I focused on illustration and 2D design\, utilizing materials such as graphite and colored pencil. After high school\, I moved to Wichita and broadened my artistic identity to include digital design\, photography\, and sculpture. I was fascinated by the endless possibilities that digital technology provided\, and I found that it allowed me to experiment and explore my creativity in ways that were not possible with traditional media alone. \nMy style is heavily influenced by pop culture and nostalgia. I draw inspiration from the movies\, TV shows\, music\, and culture that I grew up with. I am fascinated by the interplay of light and shadow\, and I often use these elements to create dramatic effects and emphasize certain features of my artwork. My style is constantly evolving\, and I am always experimenting with new techniques and approaches to create exciting pieces. \nTwo years ago\, Jae Lear and I founded Lear Heath Studio with the goal of sharing our art and collaborating with other local artists. Establishing an art business in the middle of a pandemic came with a lot of stress\, but the friends and opportunities that we found in Wichita proved to us that we made the right decision. Through our studio\, we have been able to produce several large-scale events in which the community came together to celebrate art\, music\, and performance. I hope to continue making a positive impact on Wichita’s creative community through engagement and advocacy. \nSee more of Patrick’s work online at LearHeathStudio.com\, on Instagram: @LearHeathStudio\, and @patrick_heath_ \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Mary Lee-McDonald & Jennifer Weigel
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Mary Lee-McDonald & Jennifer Weigel\nOpening Reception | First Friday March 3rd\, 2023 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through March 26th\, 2023.\nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nMARY LEE-MCDONOALD \nCreating has always been the balance I have needed to navigate the beautiful chaos of life. Often times creating to music and driving my family a little crazy on my journey. Playing a song on repeat as the work evolves and until it’s journey is complete. The music drives me to remember the full scale of emotions that life brings. \nMy goal in creating is a little selfish my goal in sharing is not. To have one look at my work and try to understand its meaning has never been my objective\, I just to try and share a little joy. \nI love texture\, layers in my paintings\, and the experimentation it offers in breaking the rules. I in my daily life am a rule follower\, wearing many hats as a daughter\, wife\, mother\, friend\, and gallery director. \nArt allows me to step out of the daily roles I love and enter a space to reflect and grow. My big passion is the art of mosaic. I love taking little pieces\, breaking them up to fit in and create something completely new and whole. \nSee more of Mary’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mary_lee_mcdonald/ \nJENNIFER WEIGEL – Art Saves Lives – My Artist Statement \nOver the past several of years\, with all of the political polarization and in response to the pandemic\, world events and general discontent\, I am finding myself more drawn to the simple expression of joy as a means of escape\, to just let go of things for a bit. Art has always been an outlet to express grievances\, to find my voice\, and to celebrate what I consider beautiful. Both making and looking at art is healing. \nThese pieces are personal explorations of joy. Some are based in real things; others are fantastical. They hearken to childhood doodles of animals & nature\, fairy tale princes & princesses\, dragons & unicorns\, flowers & rainbows. They are a return to my past obsessions with animation art\, Disney’s The Little Mermaid\, Don Bluth’s Secret of NIMH\, Jim Henson & The Muppets\, Lisa Frank\, Mary Engelbreit\, Keith Haring\, Cyndi Lauper music videos\, and all of that 80s pop culture vibe. \nThese pieces aren’t intended to be high art; they are meant to make people smile. In fact\, some of them are outright silly or snarky or both. They are imperfect and revel in their weirdness. I find that we all need a little more of that nowadays\, to just celebrate our quirkiness and be who we are. Share in my joy and take one home to color yourself\, or buy a suite of them to hang someplace where they will delight. You are invited to send digital images of finished coloring pages to post to the blog devoted to these pieces if you like.  https://toxicpositivitydrawings.blogspot.com/ \nBio \nJennifer Weigel is a multi-disciplinary mixed media conceptual artist. Weigel utilizes a wide range of media to convey her ideas\, including assemblage\, drawing\, fibers\, installation\, jewelry\, painting\, performance\, photography\, sculpture\, video and writing. Much of her work touches on themes of beauty\, identity (especially gender identity)\, memory & forgetting\, and institutional critique. Weigel’s art has been exhibited nationally in all 50 states and has won numerous awards. \nSee more of Jennifer’s work online:\nFine Art Painting\, Photography & Jewelry: https://www.jenniferweigelart.com/\nConceptual Art Projects: https://www.jenniferweigelprojects.com/\nWriting: https://jenniferweigelwords.wordpress.com/\nComplete Art Resume: http://jenniferweigelartresume.blogspot.com/ \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Rick Sallee & Greg Turner
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Rick Sallee & Greg Turner\nOpening Reception | First Friday February 3rd\, 2023 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through February 19th\, 2023. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nRICK SALLEE \nAlthough I have lived in Wichita\, Kan. since 1992\, I grew up in the small farm-and-ranch environment of Medicine Lodge. I was surrounded by amazing people from various backgrounds\, beautiful scenery\, wildlife\, and horses and livestock. I started drawing what I saw at a young age \nEncountering different people\, places\, animals\, and things has always created a constant desire and an almost-obsession in me to get the subject or idea down on paper or canvas. \nI portray my subjects in a manner that best captures their inherent gestures and movements. My role is to let subjects\, whether they are people or animals\, be their natural selves\, and I aim to be sensitive enough to capture those natural moments when they happen. \nA successful portrait or painting is much more than a mirror of a physical likeness: It transcends form and reveals the subject’s spirit and personality. Capturing the subject’s essence is what I strive for in my work. \nMy subject matter is wide and varied. Sometimes I work from photos taken by myself or others. Other times\, my work is created from a combination of different photos\, or I create using the thoughts already in my head \nMy style is mostly Realism. I love the challenge of accuracy both in the structure and in lights and values. \nWorking in soft pastels and charcoal\, allows me to layer and blend\, similar to painting\, creating depth and texture through color and technique. I sometimes incorporate acrylics with pastel and charcoal to create a mixed media work. This has enabled me to work with pastel and charcoal on canvas\, which opens new areas of creativity and presentation. \nI have recently started experimenting in Abstract Realism\, combining the styles of Abstract and Realistic Art. This interesting marriage between styles has opened up new avenues of creativity and expressive subject matter. I’m excited to pursue this new style in my future work. \nSince childhood\, I have been intrigued with all of the beautiful and amazing people\, creatures\, places\, and things our Creator has surrounded us with. Projecting a feeling or emotion through my art and capturing the essence of a subject has been my lifelong goal and joy. When I make someone smile or even cry tears of joy through my art\, then I have accomplished my goal. \nSee more of Rick’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/artist_ricksallee \nGREG TURNER \n“A jack of all trades and a master of none.” \nAlthough some might find that offensive\, I embrace it instead. I use any medium or technique to arrive at my final product. My work is diverse yet has themes that I have used throughout my life. My thoughts on art are constantly changing. Hopefully the patron will experience something new. \nSee more of Greg’s work on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GregTurnerArt \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Angie Evans & Jack Zeus
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Angie Evans & Jack Zeus\nOpening Reception | First Friday December 2nd\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through December 25th\, 2022. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nANGIE EVANS \nFreestyle Florals \nMuch of the past few years for Angie have been spent building a platform and space for other local artists in Art House 310. With that\, a quick and free process of painting these freestyle florals became almost a necessary time carved out to focus on being an artist. \nThe florals seen in this collection are in many ways a tribute to the composition itself and not so much the accuracy in the botanicals. The act of being able to paint the floral forms\, whatever they may be\, was an exercise in quick creation without limits. Some pieces in this collection focus on a monotone color palette which makes the composition even more front and center. These “ghost florals” provide an element of transparency and simplicity in these pieces while others play on vivid color balance. \nIt was an enjoyable experience seeing this collection come together and having a specific theme to focus on while being intentional on creating. I hope you enjoy this fun collection of florals\, and they bring joy and freshness to your space! \nSee more of Angie’s work online at http://www.angieevansfineart.com/ or on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/AngieAwesomePants or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/angieawesomepants or on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@angieawesomepants \nJACK ZEUS \nFlint Hills Expressionism \nThe paintings you see on these walls are not art itself. They are simply evidentiary pieces that would suggest that art has transpired.  We witness something enigmatic that the artist is sharing about himself. \nThis show is presented using re-cycled frames. This has been done for two distinct reasons. The first is that it is a form of “detournement” whereby Jack is using something once used for different art\, to announce\, “This is Art too!” The frames make the subtle suggestion that paintings such as these might just be a bit anachronistic. \nJack finds it hard to say where he is from or have much of an idea of how to explain his background. The first half of his life he lived in many places in disparate parts of the world. He holds a BFA from Emporia State. He found and fell in love with the Flint hills. Eventually he took up residence on the opposite edge of the Flints in the town of El Dorado. His work is inspired by the colors\, shapes\, and moods of Kansas\, often likened to aerial photographs. Sometimes they present as landscapes\, often as intuitive solutions based on topographic or meteorological impressions. He refers to it as “Flint Hills Expressionism.” \nLord knows where he gets the titles for his works. \nSee more of Jack’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/john.simkins1/ or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/john.simkins1 \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nArt House 310 will RECOMMEND masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. We will continue to have masks on hand as well as hand sanitizer. Please help us keep our artists and staff safe and healthy. This is crucial to keeping our doors open. All events at Art House 310 are subject to change. \n\nHand sanitizer will be on site for use.\nArt House 310 will disinfect the public areas before and after any events.\nThere is no public restroom at Art House 310.\nProperly worn masks are RECOMMENDED\, despite of vaccination status\, when entering Art House 310 and we strongly encourage you to practice safe social distancing.\nWe ask that any purchases be done so with card payment in order to reduce the spread of germs.\nAnyone showing symptoms or feeling ill or have been exposed to Covid-19 should NOT enter Art House 310.\n\nWe appreciate your understanding and efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy.

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Tania Pemar & Jim Simpson
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Tania Pemar & Jim Simpson\nOpening Reception | First Friday September 2nd\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through September 25th\, 2022. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nTANIA PEMAR \nGrowing up in the South of Spain\, abstract artist Tania Pemar moved to the US in 2008. Migrating from the crowded streets and busy atmosphere to the quiet and calming aspects of Wichita in Kansas\, led to a reconnection with nature in an entirely new way. \nUsing gestural brushstrokes or stains across the medium\, Tania Pemar focuses on line and detail to build a narration of the life around her. From the changing seasons to the tallgrass prairies – she is ever surrounded by inspiration\, in awe of its beauty. \nShe engages an almost physical dance – an extension from the painter’s hand\, built through action. With a palette of acrylics\, ink\, oil pastels on cotton\, the artist works in large scale between the floor and the wall. \nTania’s final image is focused on color relations\, as the environment instigates the patterns. Within her abstract oeuvre\, there are in-depth investigations between the links of nature – from the dancing grass to the moving clouds. Yet\, the artist leaves her work open to personal interpretation as a storyteller that lets you become the author. \nSee more of Tania’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/taniapemar \nJIM SIMPSON \nMy art starts with the act of soaking up thousands of pieces of color\, pattern\, or unique form. This storehouse of inspirational fragments are reflected in my work later. An eye for the unique and picturesque merges with a love for worn and battered things. I let the image evolve on the surface\, working up layers\, destroying parts\, letting other parts gleam through from underneath\, aggressively scrubbing paint onto the surface\, and carving into previous layers\, all these techniques contribute to a richer image. Every layer or vibrating broken line adding character and nuance. The majority of my work is acrylic painting. It’s a medium that works well with my method of painting. If I were to characterize my work in a few words it would be expressive and sincere\, I believe the process of letting the image evolve results in a more authentic and fresh result. \nSee more of Jim’s work online at https://www.jimsimpsonartwork.com/ on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jimsimpsonartwork or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Jim-Simpson-Artwork \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nArt House 310 will RECOMMEND masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. He teaches Mixed Media Abstraction and Abstract painting at Mark Arts in Wichita\, Ks. \nMaterial Abstraction \nMy works share interesting similarities of approach and are consummate examples of an intuitive take on materials and processes. I take only from my personal environment to deconstruct and construct ideas. There is an instinctual approach to material and surface in the works and as I mature as an artist\, I find myself looking more at what is in front of me and consider ways toward resolution. \nI find inspiration in the vision of Eastern Buddhist philosophy that accepts the ephemeral nature of everything and that captures beauty in imperfection and simplicity. \nSee more of Matthew’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/matthewhilyardstudio/ or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/matthew.hilyard.1 \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nArt House 310 will RECOMMEND masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status.
