SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Bart Wilcox & Jeffrey McKay
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Bart Wilcox & Jeffrey McKay\nOpening Reception | First Friday July 3rd\, 2026 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through July 26th\, 2026. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nNOTE: Open gallery hours throughout the exhibition are generally Tuesday and Thursday\, 6-9pm and Sunday\, 1-4pm. \nBART WILCOX \nWaking State \nI’ve been painting since 2023\, starting at age 70. If I am to have a career in the plastic arts\, then\, it will have to be meteoric. So\, thanks for giving your urgent attention to my work. \nI would say that I am self-taught\, but every work I look at teaches me something. I have been awakened to so much greatness in so many mostly unknown painters that my heart feels as if it will burst after a good day of looking at art. Here’s what you’ll see in Waking State: \nA waking state is changing trains between the conscious and the unconscious. Also\, I am just waking and my guard is down; I’m impressionable. My mind steers toward the figurative\, despite my intention to work in the abstract. If I had more years as a painter behind me\, I would think that I would have landed on a thing\, a style. Maybe that’s coming. Right now\, I’m just putting down what feels good. I think maybe abstraction makes me feel more serious or intellectual. (I hope that was good for a laugh.) \nThe verse accompanying most of the paintings comes from the same place as the artwork\, but takes a slightly different route. These are sometimes the genesis of the painting\, sometimes vice versa\, usually the two form and inform together. My writing has a much longer history\, but of painting and poetry\, painting is the most direct route to my unconscious. You will have to find your own way back. \nSee more of Bart’s work on Instagram: @Wilcox_Bart \nJEFFREY MCKAY \nJeffrey McKay is a Wichita-based visual artist whose work explores identity\, energy\, and transformation through a fusion of Afrofuturism\, abstraction\, and contemporary digital techniques. Working under evolving styles such as AfroNova and Quiet Nova\, his pieces balance bold cosmic expression with moments of stillness and reflection. \nHis work often combines vibrant color\, layered textures\, and symbolic elements—bridging traditional artistic influences with modern digital creation. Each piece is designed to evoke both movement and meaning\, inviting viewers to interpret their own narrative within the work. \nThrough his art\, McKay aims to create more than imagery—he creates atmosphere. Whether energetic and expressive or calm and meditative\, his work reflects a continuous exploration of creativity\, culture\, and inner space. \nSee more of Jeffrey’s work on Instagram: @Bla.ckMagic75 \, Threads: @Bla.ckMagic75 \, and on TikTok: @JeffreyMcKay82 \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Lindsey Kernodle & Steve Nicholson
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Lindsey Kernodle & Steve Nicholson\nOpening Reception | First Friday September 4th\, 2026 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through September 20th\, 2026. \nLINDSEY KERNODLE \nLindsey Kernodle is a painter drawn to the untold stories of the natural world. Her work directs attention\, our most limited resource\, toward the countless\, under-acknowledged wonders unfolding all around us. \nHow do humans understand ourselves in the context of the entire natural world? Humanity’s entire span on Earth is only 1/500th the time ants have existed here. A single tablespoon of soil can hold 10\,000 to 50\,000 different species. These facts are humbling\, mind-boggling—they pull us out to see the bigger picture\, and back in to notice its everyday wonders. We have much to learn from the countless other ways of being alive. \nBlending surrealism with realistic portraiture of humans and nature\, Kernodle collapses environments—above and below water\, land and sky—to emphasize our interconnectedness. Her dreamy\, full-color worlds capture the small miracles of daily life while gesturing toward larger questions: as the species with the greatest capacity to shape this planet\, what is our duty to it? Political undertones surface throughout\, threaded with the knowledge that our time is short and our footprint\, however small\, still matters. \nKernodle has created original illustrations for clients including the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit\, National Geographic\, Point Reyes National Seashore\, and Yale University. She is passionate about using her art to raise awareness around protecting ecosystems. \nSee more of Lindsey’s work online: LindseyKernodle.com and on Instagram: @lrkernodle \nSTEVE NICHOLSON \nHello! Welcome to my show at ArtHouse 310. \nYou might say I am self-taught\, but self-learning would be a much better description. My current primary focus is oil painting\, ink\, watercolor\, and metal/wood sculptures. \nMy current work shown here is the result of approximately six years of dedicated practice. \nI came back to art at a late stage in my life\, unexpectedly really. I carried my work home with me\, and it was taking a toll. I needed something to calm my thoughts. So in 2008\, I took an acrylic painting class at my local recreation center. The instructor just happened to be my former high school art teacher. I had never painted in my life\, not even in high school art class. \nThis set me on a path I needed. I painted with acrylics for fun\, off and on for about 12 years. It helped relieve some of my job stress. \nWhile I was painting one evening\, my 6-year-old niece Abby came in and asked if she could buy some paintings. I told her she could have them\, but she wanted to buy them. So my first sale was to her for .25 cents each! \nMy painting underwent a major change in 2000; the Wichita Art Museum hosted the “Foot in the Door” exhibit. It gave me the incentive to paint something serious and worth looking at. I had also changed to oils at this time\, which I discovered worked better for my style of painting. \nThis exhibit also changed my art practice. It gave me a bit of confidence. I became more serious\, more focused on art\, more dedicated to the practice. I currently practice some form of art every evening and late into the night\, rarely missing a day. \nThis brings us to the title of my show\, “Reflections.” When I look back at my childhood\, I was always creating and making something. I loved woodworking\, wood burning\, leatherworking\, paper-mache\, and drawing\, and I had a knack for fixing things. As an adult\, I work in the classic auto restoration field. I never thought restoring and building classic cars and hotrods was considered artistic until I heard someone refer to a beautifully restored automobile as “Rolling Art”. \nI’ve had a hard time calling myself an artist\, but when I look back\, I think maybe I have been an artist all my life and just never realized it. \nI’m nowhere near where I want to be in the art world. I’m constantly learning by making mistakes\, growing\, improving\, and trying to make each piece better than the last. \nYou’ll notice in my current work that I love color\, light\, and shadows\, and I love drawing and painting “Reflections”. \nSee more of Steve’s work online: StevenDNicholson.com on Instagram: @nicholson_steveon and on Facebook: Steve Nicholson Art \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants

SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Rhett Evans & Josh Jonico
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Rhett Evans & Josh Jonico\nOpening Reception | First Friday October 2nd\, 2026 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through October 25th\, 2026. Art House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nNOTE: Open gallery hours throughout the exhibition are generally Tuesday and Thursday\, 6-9pm and Sunday\, 1-4pm.* These hour may vary so check our social media for weekly open gallery hours. \nRHETT EVANS \nI started woodworking about 10 years ago by building my wife wooden panels for her to paint on. Eventually that lead to a deeper love for wood working and all the cool things that can be made. When Art House 310 was born in 2019\, I had enough room to start putting together a real wood shop. Now I was able to have proper machinery and started working on my skills by building small projects. Once I was somewhat confident\, I bought some plans and built the rocking chair and side table\, and the cherry lounge chair. These projects were extremely different than what I was used to and really tested my ability to try new things and learn new skills. \nFast forward a couple years and a friend of mine who is an engineer had a home-built CNC that he wanted to get rid of. I took the challenge and learned how to use CAD/CAM software and how a CNC works on the inside. About two years later I had a pretty good handle on carving wood on the CNC and was ready for an upgrade. The old small home-built CNC just wasn’t doing what I wanted it to do. \nOnce the new CNC was assembled this past March\, I had carvings to make. Every piece here was cut into strips and glued together to create stability in the wood\, so it stays flat after it is carved.  I attempted to select wood that would complement the design both in color and grain structure. The designs were purchased from digital artists with skills I have not yet mastered. These designs needed to show the level of detail I was looking for to really show off some intricate carvings. Some were chosen because they had fluid movement and a lot of depth and others are just fun! After this show I will be teaching myself how to design the files needed for a 3D CNC carve. \nThis show is a journey of developing my woodworking and CNC skills into a displayable work of art. I hope you enjoy it. \nSee more of Rhett’s work online: arthouse310.com/rhett-evans \nJOSH JOHNICO \nJosh Johnico is a contemporary Native artist based in Wichita\, KS. Through his paintings\, Josh works to give concepts new life\, often painting his own take on black and white photos. Josh prides himself on his use of dynamic colors\, rich textures\, and layers of original imagery to tell stories. Josh’s catalog also houses a significant body of abstract work. In these pieces\, viewers are invited to discover hidden images\, facial structures\, and various symbolic elements embedded within the vibrant forms. Like his portraiture\, his abstract creations utilize a bold color palette and are designed to be appreciated from every angle\, offering multiple perspectives and interpretations. \nSee more of Josh’s work on Instagram: instagram.com/joshjohnico \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants
