SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Tania Pemar & Jim Simpson
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Tania Pemar & Jim Simpson\nOpening Reception | First Friday September 2nd\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through September 25th\, 2022. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nTANIA PEMAR \nGrowing up in the South of Spain\, abstract artist Tania Pemar moved to the US in 2008. Migrating from the crowded streets and busy atmosphere to the quiet and calming aspects of Wichita in Kansas\, led to a reconnection with nature in an entirely new way. \nUsing gestural brushstrokes or stains across the medium\, Tania Pemar focuses on line and detail to build a narration of the life around her. From the changing seasons to the tallgrass prairies – she is ever surrounded by inspiration\, in awe of its beauty. \nShe engages an almost physical dance – an extension from the painter’s hand\, built through action. With a palette of acrylics\, ink\, oil pastels on cotton\, the artist works in large scale between the floor and the wall. \nTania’s final image is focused on color relations\, as the environment instigates the patterns. Within her abstract oeuvre\, there are in-depth investigations between the links of nature – from the dancing grass to the moving clouds. Yet\, the artist leaves her work open to personal interpretation as a storyteller that lets you become the author. \nSee more of Tania’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/taniapemar \nJIM SIMPSON \nMy art starts with the act of soaking up thousands of pieces of color\, pattern\, or unique form. This storehouse of inspirational fragments are reflected in my work later. An eye for the unique and picturesque merges with a love for worn and battered things. I let the image evolve on the surface\, working up layers\, destroying parts\, letting other parts gleam through from underneath\, aggressively scrubbing paint onto the surface\, and carving into previous layers\, all these techniques contribute to a richer image. Every layer or vibrating broken line adding character and nuance. The majority of my work is acrylic painting. It’s a medium that works well with my method of painting. If I were to characterize my work in a few words it would be expressive and sincere\, I believe the process of letting the image evolve results in a more authentic and fresh result. \nSee more of Jim’s work online at https://www.jimsimpsonartwork.com/ on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jimsimpsonartwork or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Jim-Simpson-Artwork \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nArt House 310 will RECOMMEND masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Matthew Hilyard
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Matthew Hilyard\nOpening Reception | First Friday August 5th\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through August 21st\, 2022. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nMATTHEW HILYARD \nMatthew Hilyard maintains his home and studio in Andover\, Ks Born and raised in Wichita\, KS. He teaches Mixed Media Abstraction and Abstract painting at Mark Arts in Wichita\, Ks. \nMaterial Abstraction \nMy works share interesting similarities of approach and are consummate examples of an intuitive take on materials and processes. I take only from my personal environment to deconstruct and construct ideas. There is an instinctual approach to material and surface in the works and as I mature as an artist\, I find myself looking more at what is in front of me and consider ways toward resolution. \nI find inspiration in the vision of Eastern Buddhist philosophy that accepts the ephemeral nature of everything and that captures beauty in imperfection and simplicity. \nSee more of Matthew’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/matthewhilyardstudio/ or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/matthew.hilyard.1 \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nArt House 310 will RECOMMEND masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Michella Tripoli & Dominique Joiner
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Michella Tripoli & Dominique Joiner\nOpening Reception | First Friday July 1st\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through July 24th\, 2022. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nMICHELLA TRIPOLI\nMy name is Michella Tripoli and I am an artist with a passion for making the most out of this life. I live for the lessons that can be learned by simply observing the beauty of nature and all things around us\, and I live for the lessons learned when we are brave enough to come face-to-face with the darkest aspects of ourselves so that we may overcome it and grow. My life is a balancing act between looking inward\, confronting myself\, trying heal the damaged parts of myself and allowing myself to let go\, to lose myself in the flow\, to simply be. \nI feel this incessant need to turn these contemplations into something tangible. That is why art is a means of catharsis for me. I use my paintings as a way to define my thoughts- to get them out of my head and into a physical existence. They are an extension of myself\, my beliefs\, my passions\, and my experiences. While much of my work is personal\, I hope it can be relatable to others. My ultimate goal is to shift the viewer’s perception of the world and what we are capable of. I believe we can change the world if we can find the courage to change ourselves. \nSee more of Michella’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michella_tripoli/ or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/michellatripoliart \nDOMINIQUE JOINER\nDominique Joiner (b 1988 Wichita\, Kansas) uses her chosen mediums of acrylic and oils to identify the experience of women in a male dominated society. Dominique has observed the lives of many women from several walks of life and uses the influence of these women to relay her narrative. She uses the ideals of sensuality and affection to draw the viewer in and coaxes them to become more aware with riveting details and underlying messages. Dominique has a goal of pressing women to gain more ipseity\, regardless of the rhetoric they are taught to the contrary. \nIpseity starts with awareness\, the doorway to change. Many of the artist’s paintings directly depict the chosen problem\, with no offer of a solution\, forcing the viewer to digest and relate. The use of golden accents is meant to show a sense of majesty and divinity that women carry\, regardless of the situation\, be it vulnerable or powerful. As the gateway to life\, women deserve to be viewed as such. Dominique’s art will encourage individuals to search inwardly and come to peace with their feelings. \nSee more of Dominique’s work online at https://dominiquejoinerart.square.site/  on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/domiijo/ or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DomiiiJo/ \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nArt House 310 will RECOMMEND masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Tyree Williams & NE Magnet Students
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Tyree Williams & NE Magnet Students\nOpening Reception | First Friday June 3rd\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through June 19th\, 2022. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nTYREE WILLIAMS – Artist Statement Poem\nHe broke you.\nHis heart shaped hands that used to cradle your emotions\nsmacked you across the face\,\nAnd in the place of his fingerprints read the word trickery. \nHe tricked you in believing that you could count on him\,\nup until you had to count on him\,\nhis numbers read matrix code and you couldn’t understand who the “1” was if not him.\nIt amazes you how he’s just not…\n…”Him”. \nThey say actions speak louder than words – which was fine you see\,\nbecause honestly\,\nhis words never came across kindly.\nPlus your love for him never could translate to words properly.\nTruth is\,\nyou knew he was no different. \nYou knew he was like all the other boys whose voices were as soft as Charmin\,\ngently wiping any sign of doubt off your face.\nPretending to flush down your trauma along with his guilt. \nYou continued to ignore the red flags like your friends ignored the shakes in your voice when they asked about him.\n“Everythin- *mmhmm* Everything’s fine\,” your body would always rebel. \nYou needed to find Love. \nYou needed to find love so you began searching\,\nsearching for that love that mimicked Grandma’s Sunday morning hugs\,\nor Momma’s care on sick days. (although you’re gonna need more than vapor rub and sprite) \nIn the end\, you found love to the right of healing\nand left of lessons learned\,\ninside the one person you should’ve looked to first… \n…yourself. \nSee more of Tyree’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jhermall.jpg/ \nNE MAGNET STUDENTS\nMELISSA VALENZUELA\nI do the work I do because I think there are many beautiful things around me that need to be captured. I’m still learning but going through this project and my sustained investigation has really helped me to think more creatively with my photography and for me to start branching out from just the basic business photography. My goal and aspirations as an artist are to be able to create photography as my job not as a hobby. My favorite thing to photograph is people. Whether that be candid or a formal portrait I love it. Every person is different\, and every person has a different vibe and I kind of like to incorporate that in the work. To create a piece\, I produce an idea I choose an outfit\, a background\, and a model that all complement each other and from there I kind of just let the posing and other things flow as I take them. Sometimes\, I go in knowing which shot I want to get and I try other different ones so if that one does not work out\, I have others. I like to get everything pre-production so that post-production runs way more smoothly for me and I can just do minor things. My work is different from others because no matter the person I take photos of I’ve noticed I like to have a regal look to the person/people I’m photographing. My current work is a series of photographs that is kind of a mixture of different things. It is a depiction of immigrant families and how we all look different but also showing how immigrating changes each generation and how we pass down all of our traditions. This project grew out of me wanting to try more studio work and messing around with lighting.  Also just enjoying the event or place I was at and capturing the moment. I am still kind of new to photography\, so this project was a chance for me to photograph the things that were the reason I bought a camera in the first place. All the parades and traditions and the people that are rich in culture that deserve to be photographed because of how beautiful they are. \nSee more of Melissa’s work online at https://melissavalenzuela.myportfolio.com/ on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/melissavalenzuelaphotography and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_.mvphotography._/ \nARIANNA HARLAN\nA great deal of expressionism\, meaning\, and a stylistic interpretation resides within the works I produce\, and will continue to produce\, in the future. I find it is important to continue to explore differences in media as well as meaning\, and experiment with the unknown to gain an emotional understanding of what it truly means to create as an artist. I aspire to create works that encompass my style and stand out as the exploration of the unknown becomes more apparent throughout each piece or set of pieces. \nMuch of the designs I create start out as a “brain dump” and then become recrafted as I progress in specific piece and/or project. I would love to say that many of my pieces are planned\, but that would be a lie. I love the idea of creating without a specific motive or objective. It seems to bring out a sense of urgency and illumination in what can be crafted in the spur of the moment. A lot of the materials I use consist of oil paint on canvas. Recently I have been experimenting a lot with denim material\, acrylic paint on gessoed paper\, and collages on mixed media paper. I love to use oil and mixed media because it creates a smooth and interesting surface to elaborate on creatively. Much of this media allows me to truly “brain dump” my ideas and then have them turn into a desired piece or aspect I maybe haven’t tried or would like to stay open to. \nMy current works encompass emotions disguising themselves through distortion of the figure as well as the human face. This Sustained Investigation has brought to light how humans interact or interpret both physical and emotional aspects and how those can be connected within themselves. I also have always been drawn to physical abstraction in art and its concepts\, so I felt that my current works should explore a side of my style that seemed more personal and challenging. \nSee more of Arianna’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arianna_harlan/ \nEMILY RUEDA\nMy name is Emily Rueda\, and I am an artist. I like to create art because it allows me to express stories and themes in an interesting way. Everything thing has been done before\, but the exact process has not. I experience a unique creating process and have control over a perspective of a subject that is important to me. The artwork creates a conversation. I want to create artworks that have a clear message or leave the viewer asking more questions on the meaning of it. I want to expand on how I do art currently. \nI create art to express myself and to tackle subject matters that interest me such as transformation\, growth\, fantasy\, lore\, mystery\, and other subjects that connect to the human experience like mind\, body\, and soul like dreaming\, religion\, or beliefs. I lean towards these subjects because human experience is a major inspiration of mine. A person journey is complex and intriguing. Miles Johnston is an artist that I look up to. My work is different from others because I use a variety of mediums. When I create a piece\, I sketch sometimes and while I am doing that\, I imagine the work  as a character to give a Personality. With that I create the color scheme and materials I want to use. Once I have an idea\, I like to go straight for it which can be frustrating. plan\, so I revise many times while working\, but it sticks to the concept at the end. At the end I see a piece that is well organized\, cohesive\, and charming. Others have said that there’s a visible high level of technique and creativity behind it. \nMy interest in art was always there\, but it wasn’t until my middle art teacher push the students there to actual develop art skills. I was best at graphite at that time noticing this she pushed me to be better and try other mediums. She even recommended that I should attend Northeast Magnet. With encourage and determination I wanted to and still want to improve. Technical skills can always improve\, but I want to focus on storytelling. I have started wanting to write a story to expand more on the narrative part of art. I have experimented with creating books to story tell and different types of art illustrations like comic book or mixed media. In the future I want to be like Eric Carle. I aspire to do so. \nSee more of Emily’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emilu_ily_/ \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nArt House 310 will RECOMMEND masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Jessica Vega & Chuck Dooms\nOpening Reception | First Friday April 1st\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nJESSICA VEGA\n[[[D[[real]m]]] \nThis work is a representation of the blending of the outward experience of everyday waking reality and the inner life that’s connected to dreams. This body is the overlapping of the two and being repeatedly connected and disconnected.  This is shown by the branches connecting and disconnecting to themselves\, by one object twisting and becoming another\, and by the combination of uncertainty and clarity. \nSee more of Jessica’s work online at https://www.vegaartworks.com/\, on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/E.FawnGrimm/ or on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jess_renee_vega\nCHUCK DOOMS\nI started doing photo manipulation and digital painting about 7 years ago. An early diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease prompted an early retirement. \nTo be honest\, I started playing around with my little Android phone’s painting apps. I started by taking pictures I’d taken with the phone and digitally manipulate them and add digital paint. My process has changed since I invested in a much larger tablet. \nThe theme hasn’t changed much. I make what appeals to me. Whatever it might be. A few years ago\, I had DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) surgery. This has given me much needed control over the tremors that I experienced. I’m not cured\, but it was a game changer. \nI’m often reminded of a quote attributed to the late\, great David Bowie;\n“Aging is an extraordinary process whereby you become the person you always should have been.” I hope he was right. \nI took up this silly little obsession because I wanted to. I keep doing it because now I have to. I owe so much to the Wichita art community. They opened their hearts to me and made me feel a part of that community. The work you see is my open love letter to them. Thank you. \nSee more of Chuck’s work online at http://www.chuckdooms.com or on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chuckdooms\nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nArt House 310 will RECOMMEND masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Kelly Patton & Ofelia Studio
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Kelly Patton & Ofelia Studio\nOpening Reception | First Friday March 4th\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through March 20th\, 2022. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nKELLY PATTON Artist Statement: Animal Talismans \nSpirit guides visit my sketchbook from time to time\, often in the form of animals.  They are compilations of memories such as collecting rocks along a river\, having philosophical conversations\, or an encounter with a strange animal at the zoo.  They speak a language through their gestures and surrounding symbols that reveal messages.  The narrative is painted and transformed into a talisman that offers guidance and healing. \nTalisman: An object that is thought to have magic powers and bring good luck. \nBio: Kelly Patton is the creator of books that conjure childhood mischief and wonder to inspire creativity\, encourage self-care and bring us closer to nature. From a young age she began to explore her interests in the supernatural by illustrating a Tarot deck and wrote and painted pictures for children’s fantasy stories. She earned her fine arts degree\, traveled throughout Europe and lived alone in the woods\, all the while recording her stories and lessons learned through her paintings. Kelly recognizes her characters as talismans who have the power to attract positive change and transformation. \nKelly is the creator of the oracle deck Secret Woods published by Schiffer Red Feather in 2021. The deck includes 28 cards and a 72-page companion book that feature unique animals\, nature spirits and unusual creatures who offer deeply heartfelt advice. \nSee more of Kelly’s work online at http://www.kellypattonart.com/\, and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kellypattonart/\nOFELIA STUDIO MM\, an artist from Ofelia Studio\, is “a lettering artist”\, as he’ll tell you if you ask him what does. \n“If I say I do calligraphy\, typography\, script or graffiti\, people’s imagination fills in the blank for them on what image their subconscious tells them I should embody. And when that image doesn’t match\, many conversations stop there. After I say I do lettering\, and that blank stare claims their faces\, I pull out my digital ‘pocket gallery’\, and conversations can go in a myriad of directions depending on where they make a connection”. \nHe is self-taught since elementary days. \n“I came across a copy of an Old English font page in elementary school\, and I religiously absorbed every line\, every curve\, every taper till it became second nature to create from memory. I didn’t even know calligraphy pens existed till ninth grade\, which by then\, I didn’t need”. \nHe is inspired by “any and everything that teaches me something new” and aims to create aesthetically pleasing and balanced pieces people can “feel themselves in”. \n“I am always joyful when I am working on a piece\, usually at a coffee shop\, and someone passes by and looks over my shoulder\, gets excited\, tells me the piece’s detail\, colors\, style\, etc.\, stirs up emotion; and then asks for personal pieces. I have always just drawn for myself\, but the quote: “Artists create things you did not know you wanted”\, honors and humbles me\, as an art collector myself\, when people request pieces from me. Over several years I have developed several styles; and as I gradually exhibit work\, I may just have a piece for you”. \nSee more of Ofelia Studio’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sumndfrnt/\nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\n\nWith the increased rate of COVID exposure and transmission\, effective 1/13/22\, Art House 310 will REQUIRE masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Brittany Stewart & Tarzia Khan
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Brittany Stewart & Tarzia Khan\nOpening Reception | First Friday February 4th\, 2022 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through February 20th\, 2022. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nBRITTANY STEWART A Kansas local born and raised in Wichita. I Brittany Stewart have become a DIY lover\, thrifter that found a true inspiration for art 7 years ago. Thrifting furniture\, upscaling them to sale or keep for my own use until one day I decided to paint on canvas and there I discovered my passion. \nArt became a gateway for self-expression. My purpose as an artist is to explore around the human conditions\, how we fit into the rest of the world. Quite frankly what makes us different and unique. We may never have it all figured out\, but I’ll continue to stay reflective because I experience uncertainty and certainty within the same energy. \nWithin my work I share my love for color\, texture\, and shapes. My pieces are almost always Abstract\, and figure based. Understanding that our true portraits are vastly than what we see with our own eyes. It’s a much deeper dive into who we are. \nAs we sometimes face doubt and scrutiny on a day-to-day basis\, I’ve challenged myself to explore mental health\, practicing self-care with self-love. This series is an extension of a hand\, a hug\, and a voice for those that are and have faced strenuous obstacles. Simply a reminder to be kind to self as we grow. \nSee more of Brittany’s work online at https://www.beloveartistry.com/\, and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/belove_/\nTARZIA KHAN My collection H2O\, came about from my love of painting water. I grew up painting landscapes in oil. In most of my landscapes\, there was water in the foreground. When we lived in Singapore\, I started painting cityscapes\, and again having the element of water was very important for me. Whether it was wet city streets or a skyline of a city or a famous landmark\, I found ways to feature water. To me\, water brings so much life and depth to art. \nLast summer I embarked on a project to paint people in water. My friends and family graciously volunteered to model for my paintings. Not only did I capture them floating on the surface of a pool or sitting by its edge\, I started taking underwater photography. First with my iPhone submerged underwater inside a plastic pouch\, and then with a small action camera. I’m fascinated by the reflections and refractions of light in water. \nMy style of work as an artist is a bit eclectic. I love painting many different subjects in both oil and acrylics. Some of my work is very realistic\, while others tend to be more impressionist style\, even abstract in nature. H2O is a true representation of my voice as an artist. From people submerged in swimming pools\, to gondolas in Venice to sunsets and sunrises over large bodies of water\, this collection gives you a glimpse of my favorite things to paint. I hope you enjoy my first ever Art Exhibition\, as much as I enjoyed painting every single piece.\n \nSee more of Tarzia’s work on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TarziasArt/ and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tarzia_khan_fineart/\nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\n\nWith the increased rate of COVID exposure and transmission\, effective 1/13/22\, Art House 310 will REQUIRE masks to be worn upon entering the gallery\, despite vaccination status. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Heather Byers & Dallas Dodge
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Heather Byers & Dallas Dodge\nOpening Reception | First Friday December 3rd\, 2021 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through December 23rd\, 2021. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nHEATHER BYERS Artist Statement: I see the world around me – plants\, people\, patterns – and find that much fascinates me. I observe details: small lines or gradual color transitions on a face or a flower capture my attention and compel me to share. Still\, it can be easy for quiet images to get lost among the noise. That is why\, in my work\, I make subjects bigger. I make colors surprising and bold. I am heavy handed with outlines so you see exactly what I want to show you. \nMy desire to share is precisely why public art has become my passion. I use vivid paints to steal the attention of passersby. My art is made to be seen in casual settings\, accessible to anyone who would pay attention. \nArtist Bio: Wichita based muralist\, Heather Byers\, has been painting professionally since 2017. As with many visual artists\, drawing and painting has been a lifelong pursuit. These days\, Heather blends her painting skills with a growing interest in community engagement to create an ideal focus on murals and public art. \nBy using bold colors and outlines\, Heather expertly draws the viewer’s attention to fairly common subjects. Whether on the exterior of a building or inside a small business\, her work creates a bright atmosphere. Recently\, Heather has completed large projects for the City of Wichita Parks Department and Newman University. \nSee more of Heather’s work online at https://www.heatherbyers.art\, on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/2dheatherb and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/2dheatherb/\nDALLAS DODGE At first glance\, Dallas Dodge’s work appears as just a menagerie of cartoonish characters and/or tongue in cheek comedy. It would be easy to overlook any current of serious expression in his absurd aliens and other fanciful pieces. However\, having once been a rodeo clown\, Dallas is keenly aware of the fact that comedy often lives on a fine edge from far more serious work. Humor can be the vehicle that takes the edge off deeper concerns.  His good sense of humor notwithstanding\, Dallas’ work is largely\, like most art\, about himself and his ideas.  Although he understands what some of his pieces are saying\, others are not so clear. Nevertheless\, he uses humorous figures the way other artists might use lines\, shapes\, or color to express their emotions. \nSee more of Dallas’s work on Instagram: instagram.com/dallasdodgeart\nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nAs the CDC relaxes the mask recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals\, we ask that anyone entering Art House 310 use your best moral judgement on masks. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Jennifer Larsen & Brandon Larsen
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Jennifer Larsen & Brandon Larsen\nOpening Reception | First Friday November 5th\, 2021 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through November 21st\, 2021. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nJENNIFER LARSEN Artist Statement: My current body of work is an examination of identity through psychological portraiture. I am exploring how psychology is connected to portraiture through symbols\, patterns\, colors\, and design. This investigation has led me to reflect on my own rites of passage and struggles with mental health using autoethnography as a starting point. \nThe pill motif\, domestic imagery and use of sewing and fabric have carried itself throughput my work and seem to be way of working that lends itself to therapy through the process of layering. My main take away is the need to leave my own mark on the world and tell my visual story like having the satisfaction of keeping a journal or as a means of therapy which art has always been for me personally. \nMy thoughts began to go back to mental health and daily routines to start my reflections. I began to concentrate on what habits I have developed in the past two years that have been affecting my mental health\, that is when I embarked upon my series about dreaming\, sleeping and daily routines. I decided to document myself in my most tired moments and portray those in portraits. These daily expressions of exhaustion always overcome me at the end of each day.  I kept trying to capture the feeling of being overcome by something\, as if I can’t get enough space and my troubles and responsibilities keep mounting. The scissors represent the feeling of falling apart or losing something important. The single image of each pill is a in itself a portrait of the medication I consume daily as a way to document my journey towards whatever lies ahead. \nSee more of Jennifer’s work online at jenniferlarsen.wordpress.com\nBRANDON LARSEN Artist Statement: Myth\, dreams\, and memory are key components in the thematic content of my work. I reflect on these reoccurring themes of sadness\, nostalgia\, death\, and rebirth. These forces come to play in the creation of the images. Alchemy and transmutation whether literally as in the cyanotype process or conceptually as in the thematic content of work are important components to the image making process. The cycle of creation and destruction is employed to create a feeling of uneasiness. \nJungian ideas of archetypes and transmutation are explored in this body of work. The paintings have figures emerging or receding into atmospheric space relay the internal struggles of the individual and the psyche\, the reduction of things to lowest common denominator or the search for truth. Some works have patterns that are inspired by images taken from experiments done at the Cern super collider; where particles are smashed together in an attempt to break particles into the smallest pieces. \nThe cyanotype works have been created using many years of photographic source imagery that I have created; these sources have been combined into new compositions altering the original images to create new myths\, dreams\, and memories. \nThe images are created using photo editing software with hard and digital media which lends itself to the falseness of memory and the creation of mythology. The end result is imagery that has a dream like ethereal quality. These works create a new representational space in which unlikely events are possible. \nSee more of Brandon’s work online at bwlarsen.wordpress.com and on Facebook at facebook.com/Blarsen71\nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\,  Instagram | @ArtHouse310\, TikTok | @AngieAwesomePants\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nAs the CDC relaxes the mask recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals\, we ask that anyone entering Art House 310 use your best moral judgement on masks. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Tarah Clark & Kelly Rundell
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Tarah Clark & Kelly Rundell\nOpening Reception | First Friday October 1st\, 2021 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through October 24th\, 2021. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nTARAH CLARK Artist Statement: “Colorful Creations” is a collection of work which explores the vibrance of nature from my point of view. \nThrough this work I spent time exploring the details of the world around us\, from the folds of a flower petal to the texture on a bumblebee. When you look at the way an insect lands on a plant or the way the colors seamlessly blend together as one\, that’s what I’ve gone for here. \nI’ve added a feature that doesn’t get noticed much by creating a watercolor like aspect which almost helps create that blending of the blooms\, then highlighting it with ink as they come to their full potential\, leaving just the right amount of want from the on looker. My media of choice has always been acrylic paint and with these I’ve stretched the bright pigment around the canvas letting it have a natural flow yet still guiding it in the direction I wish it to go. The florals are seen in the fields where they naturally grow and also displayed in a vase that always brings the cheerfulness back to your heart. Hopefully these colorful creations find their way to yours. Enjoy! \nSee more of Tarah’s work online at www.TarahLynnCreations.com on Facebook: www.Facebook.com/tarahlynncreations and on Instagram: www.Instagram.com/tarahlynncreations\nKELLY RUNDELL Artist Statement: My paintings serve as a reminder that not everything is as simple as it seems. \nI use lots of straight lines because that is how I present myself to the world– straightforward and organized.  But I’m not really like that.  Like many other people\, my unseen mind and spirit are much deeper\, more interesting and complex than just my well-curated public persona.  Buildings are the same way.  Behind every wall\, there is always something else.  What is happening beyond what is seen?  What is really on the other side of the wall or window?  What would it be like if the energy and excitement that seems confined by the wall actually burst through?  My paintings encourage people to be curious and wonder what else is going on. \nThese paintings are exclusively acrylic paint on canvas. There is very little brush work\, most of my work is painted with my fingers.  I use tools to scrape paint off and create textures.  Multiple layers of paint are used to reflect depth and complexity. The textures in my paintings are representative of the lack of perfection.  I prefer strong colors because what is hidden can be challenging\, exciting and fun. \nSee more of Kelly’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kellyrundellart/\nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Aida Bell & Aaron Jackson Bowman
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Aida Bell & Aaron Jackson Bowman\nOpening Reception | First Friday September 3rd\, 2021 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through September 19th\, 2021. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nAIDA BELL is a woman of science and art\, she was born in Africa\, lived a great part of her life in Paris\, France\, and more than twenty years all over the US\, mainly NY and AZ. \nOver the years\, l developed unique sculpted artworks using many different but complex techniques aiming to depict beauty through a combination of colors\, textures\, a touch of gold or silver with always underlying meanings. \nMy show will be called “Silhouettes” by Aida Bell a creative way of expressing beauty and emotions through graceful shapes and portraits. \nSee more of Aida’s work online at http://www.aidabellart.com on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aidabellart and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aidabellart/ \nAARON JACKSON BOWMAN STATEMENT: “Outline” An element that governs\, that organizes\, that artificially and naturally shapes nearly all reaches of the human experience―from geographical phenomenon to national and city borders\, to physical infrastructure\, to electronic connectivity\, to music\, to dance\, and to parades\, to architecture and to the construction of our bodies\, and (not absent of the chronology of our own living timelines) to the four dimensions we meander within―the line has been adopted\, exploited and is the most conspicuous part of the work. \nThe line―the framework for the art―prevails as one of the oldest and purest forms of mark-making. Relying heavily upon both the circumscriptions and the gestural wanderings of linework\, the paintings become a celebration of scribble\, with many of the works being composed by a single\, continuous line. In conjunction with an almost paint-by-number application of color and texture\, the pictures—contrived of doodles—are childlike\, yet attempt to simultaneously exhibit an air of technical tightness. The predecessors of the actual paintings―an accumulation of sketches―are occasionally created with a specific image in mind\, but many are not predetermined and are instead birthed by the swift impromptu movement of a pencil on paper. These sketches\, in all cases\, are not subliminal in nature; rather they are a conscious act of drawing. \nWith no intentions of being esoteric or fraught with deep-seated riddles\, the process of creation nevertheless concludes with a manufacture that may embody some underlying meaning(s).  Perhaps the works are haphazardly navigating between the manifesto of metamodernism and the creed of art for art’s sake―between meaning and unmeaning. And of the latter\, it may be impossible to dodge an altogether vacancy in meaning\, as art\, as an import of feeling\, as a symbolic device\, as an exhibitionist to an audience\, will struggle to keep quiet no matter how hard it tries. Regardless\, what is most important is that whatever narrative shall associate itself with the picture being offered\, it must be the consumer who has authored that narrative\, not the work’s creator. \nSee more of Aaron’s work online at www.aaronjacksonbowman.com and on Instagram: instagram.com/aaronjacksonbowman  \nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Amy Huser & Emily Miller Yamanaka
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Amy Huser & Emily Miller Yamanaka\nOpening Reception | First Friday August 6th\, 2021 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through August 22nd\, 2021. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nAMY HUSER is a textile installation artist and painter from Wichita\, KS. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History from the University of Kansas in 2014 and Master of Fine Arts in Painting in 2020 from Wichita State University. While at KU\, Amy’s studio emphasis was textile design. It was during that time that she fell in love with weaving. Over the past few years\, her work has evolved into hand-woven and painted textile installations. \nRepetitive\, meditative movement in both weaving and walking is tied to renewing the mind and processing emotion.  In this way\, the process of making matches the activity through which I gather images—photographs from along those paths.  These walks or runs often take me near bodies of water or through remote trails in the mountains or desert when I can travel.  In this body of work\, I abstract the images I’ve gathered in nature to represent the abstract emotions evoked in those moments of letting go. \nSee more of Amy’s work online at http://www.amyhuser.com on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/amymichellehuser and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_amyhuser \nEMILY MILLER YAMANAKA is a Japanese painter\, textile artist\, and tattoo artist. She lived in Japan for 10 years\, where she studied traditional ink painting and received her MFA in Japanese Painting from Musashino Art University in Tokyo. Emily also has a BFA in Textile Design from the University of Kansas. \n“No Room for Sky” \nInspired by the natural beauty of Kansas\, I am always most fascinated by its expansive sky and the inherently ever-changing beauty. The layered surfaces of my paintings are unique histories\, like my own artistic journey\, with traditional Japanese inks and pigments\, neons of Tokyo\, textile textures\, and gradations of change that are all charged with the positive energy of loving what I do. \nBut I noticed a distinct change in my art recently\, as the energies that I put into it have evolved with the current socio-political Coronavirus-influenced environment. I noticed that even though I am painting skies\, there is no longer any room for open sky; it has become increasingly layered clouds. There are even clouds within clouds. These newest pieces have been my borderline obsessive response to the recent stressors\, to translate it all into layers of beautiful technicolor clouds. \nSee more of Emily’s work online at https://emilymiller727.wixsite.com/paintings on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/allthingsemilyart and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/colorsofthesouthwind/ \nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Dominique Joiner & Juanta Wolfe
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Dominique Joiner & Juanta Wolfe\nOpening Reception | First Friday July 2nd\, 2021 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. \nShow hangs through July 25th\, 2021. \nDONIMIQUE JOINER (b 1988 Wichita\, Kansas) uses her chosen mediums of acrylic and oils to identify the experience of women in a male dominated society. \nSee more of Dominique’s work on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DiiamondDom/ and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/diiamonddom/ \nJUANTA WOLFE Artist Statement: I am a Wichita native\, born and raised on the south side. My upbringing plays a large role in my style and perspective when it comes to my art. I am mixed with white and black\, and never shied away from accepting either one of my races. Growing up I always loved hip-hop\, and watching movies that fell into the same category. That all changed when my friend gave me a copy of Linkin Park’s “The Hybrid Theory”. I instantly fell in love with the screaming and heavy guitar\, and almost immediately started skateboarding. This illustrates my experience of being mixed and often feeling like I had to choose when to be “black” or “white”. As I got older I stopped caring\, and decided to like and do whatever felt right. In my art I try to reflect the constant battle I have with what I identify as\, which\, in short\, is nothing. My art reflects the confusion I have with the direction I want to go in my life\, and the general idea that I don’t worry too much about the end result. I focus on the journey that colors and lines take me on as I create and am not concerned about where it ends up. As far as my influences\, I’ve always loved cartoons and the way an artist uses simple shapes to represent facial features and everyday objects. The influence of graffiti and street art has always been in my art as well. I remember seeing graffiti in Tony Hawk games\, and in the music videos I would watch on BET. Most of the shapes and techniques I use on canvas came from my focus on being a graffiti artist. My recent works are a true combination of all my experiences creating and appreciating art. I’ve always enjoyed Picasso’s works\, but cubism has been done and I’ve wanted a style that is definitely mine. So combining graffiti with cartoon drawings\, mixed with shading and multiple perspectives is what I try to achieve with my art. I want people to look at my pieces and think they are abrasive in design\, but see that the execution of my line-work and shading are technical and skilled. Overall I just want my art to be what it is\, and not something that others say it is. \nSee more of Juanta’s work online at https://wolfe-art.square.site/ on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juantas1 and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/taterwolfebjj/ \nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday – Kevin Kelly
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Kevin Kelly\nOpening Reception | First Friday May 7th\, 2021 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. \nShow hangs through May 23rd\, 2021. \nKEVIN KELLY was born in 1978 and raised in Colorado and Kansas.  He received a Bachelor in art education from Wichita State University in 2001\, and began teaching at Wichita West High School the same year.  He earned his MFA in painting from Wichita State University in 2008. His artwork is held in many private collections and has been recognized through the I Like Your Work podcast\, the Golden artist residence\, the Harvester Arts Community Fellowship program\, and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Commission.  Kelly has been featured in group and solo exhibits in Kansas\, Oklahoma\, Arkansas\, and New York for the last 15 years.  His work has been featured in several publications\, including New American Paintings\, Studio Visit magazine\, and the book Wichita Artists in Their Studios. \nARTIST STATEMENT: Unda Presha\nIn some ways\, quarantine suited me. The exuberance of a new spring mixed with the withdrawal of a second winter. It provided plenty of energy and space to work artistically so long as I could stand up against the enormous weight that was pushing down on all of us. These pieces began in that compressed space of last March and have continued to grow as they parallel other forces and work in my life. The challenge has been to work with limited materials and a small format to freeze a painterly gesture. I process my experiences by matching verbs with art materials — tearing apart old paintings to make way for new possibilities\, cutting away the unnecessary bits\, forcing paint to read surfaces through a screen\, through rubbings\, or by being run over. Ultimately\, I want this body of work to reflect the conflict between play and the pressures of our time. \n\nSee more of Kevin’s work on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kevin.kelly.9843 and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kevinpkellyart \nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nCOVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: \n\nAll events at Art House 310 are subject to change.\nHand sanitizer will be on site for use.\nArt House 310 will disinfect the public areas before and after any events.\nThere is no public restroom at Art House 310.\nProperly worn masks are strongly recommended when entering Art House 310 and we strongly encourage you to practice safe social distancing.\nWe ask that any purchases be done so with card payment in order to reduce the spread of germs.\nAnyone showing symptoms or feeling ill or have been exposed to Covid-19 should NOT enter Art House 310.\n\nWe appreciate your understanding and efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy. \nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. He has painted a Keeper of the Plains at the Urban Pop-up Park. His work is included in the publication New American Paintings West Coast Edition no.120. His students have received numerous awards in local juried art competitions. He maintains his home and studio in Andover\, KS. He teaches abstract painting at Mark Arts in Wichita\, KS. \nSee more of Matthew’s work on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/matthew.hilyard.1 and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/matthewhilyardstudio \nVALERIE HARING is a life-long Kansan. She started my educational career at Butler Community College then spent one year at Bethany before she earned a BSE from Emporia State University in Art Education and an MA from Wichita State University. Valerie is the Chair of the Art Department at Butler Community College where she has had the pleasure of teaching young artists for nearly 30 years. Valerie has two adult sons\, Jordon and Jaxon. Her life partner\, John Oehm\, is a fellow artist; they speak the same language. She calls herself a painter\, although throughout her career she has also made assemblages\, sculpture\, photography and digital prints. When Valerie reflects on her history as an artist\, it can be traced to her childhood. Her father is a collector of things; mostly cars. She loved to “find” objects and assembled odds-and-ends into artistic creations. Valerie’s mother kept her sister and herself busy with craft projects involving sewing and homemade clay. Valerie joyously roamed the wooded area close to their country home\, excited to discover a unique rock or odd animal bone. Valerie’s adulthood has been filled with intellectual\, personal and artistic discovery. In 2005\, she designed the construct of the striped composition in her art making. Valerie established some rules for herself which she tries to break without destroying the visual integrity of the piece. These experiences have become manifest in the artwork that she makes. \nArtist Statement:\nI am a formalist. The visual organization of images often supersedes my concerns for subject matter or narrative content. I strive to create a visual language inspired from images that I have garnered from the world around me. I experience the beauty and diversity of colors\, textures\, and shapes and reorganize and layer images into a strict construct of vertical and/or horizontal stripes. I often use my iPhone camera to capture images that may be used as reference material or layered into digital monoprints. I don’t consider myself a photographer\, but a painter who uses diverse materials ranging from oil on canvas\, to carved and “found” wood constructs\, and digital prints. My work is often nonrepresentational\, but I increasingly experience a longing to integrate bits of realistic imagery into the process in an attempt to hint at conceptualism. My work was born of a post-modern idea that the artist could make work by picking and choosing inspiration from the cultural warehouse of images that have grown out of the history of art-making\, literature\, modern society and personal experience. I am excited by the exploration of materials and processes of art making. I am suspect of things that come to fruition too easily. The struggle to make something that is true is one that I hold in high reverence. \nSee more of Valerie’s work online: https://valerieharing.wordpress.com/about/ and on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/valerie.haring.7 \nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nCOVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: \n\nAll events at Art House 310 are subject to change.\nHand sanitizer will be on site for use.\nArt House 310 will disinfect the public areas before and after any events.\nThere is no public restroom at Art House 310.\nProperly worn masks are strongly recommended when entering Art House 310 and we strongly encourage you to practice safe social distancing.\nWe ask that any purchases be done so with card payment in order to reduce the spread of germs.\nAnyone showing symptoms or feeling ill or have been exposed to Covid-19 should NOT enter Art House 310.\n\nWe appreciate your understanding and efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy. \nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday - Charlotte Martin & Jim Simpson
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Charlotte Martin & Jim Simpson\nOpening Reception | First Friday November 6th\, 2020 | 6-10pm \nShow hangs through November 22nd. \nNATURE BASED – NATURE INSPIRED WORKS BY CHARLOTTE MARTIN AND JIM SIMPSON\nCHARLOTTE MARTIN received her BFA in painting / drawing from Wichita State University\, after studying at Arizona State University. \nHer fascination with nature began early in life\, and has only grown over time. Much of her work focuses on the smallest items – seeds\, seed pods\, small grasses\, roots\, and dead leaves. And\, of course\, there’s the interest in birds\, which continues to be part of her focus. \nJIM SIMPSON’s works have been included in Wichita Arts Council juried shows\, Kansas Watercolor 7-State Exhibitions\, National juried shows at Mark Arts\, and in private and corporate art collections. See a gallery of work at jimsimpsonartwork.com. Follow @jimsimpsonartwork on lnstagram and Facebook. \nJim’s process lets the image evolve on the surface…working up layers\, destroying parts\, letting others parts gleam through from underneath\, carving into previous layers. These actions all contribute to a richer image with depth and texture. His expressionistic imagery is primarily is focused on botanical and wildlife art. \nFind this event on Facebook HERE.\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nCOVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:\n– All events at Art House 310 are subject to change.\n– Hand sanitizer will be on site for use.\n– Art House 310 will disinfect the public areas before and after any events.\n– There is no public restroom at Art House 310.\n– Masks are required when entering Art House 310 and we strongly encourage you to practice safe social distancing.\n– We ask that any purchases be done so with card payment in order to reduce the spread of germs.\n– Limited capacity\, please wait on the patio if the gallery is too full.\n– Anyone showing symptoms or feeling ill should avoid entering Art House 310.\nWe appreciate your understanding and efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy. \nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism.
