SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday - Matthew Hilyard & Valerie Haring
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Matthew Hilyard & Valerie Haring\nOpening Reception | First Friday April 2nd\, 2021 | 6-10pm \nShow hangs through April 25th\, 2021. \nMATTHEW HILYARD is a painter\, photographer\, art instructor & curator well known in the Wichita art community. He has painted a Keeper of the Plains at the Urban Pop-up Park. His work is included in the publication New American Paintings West Coast Edition no.120. His students have received numerous awards in local juried art competitions. He maintains his home and studio in Andover\, KS. He teaches abstract painting at Mark Arts in Wichita\, KS. \nSee more of Matthew’s work on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/matthew.hilyard.1 and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/matthewhilyardstudio \nVALERIE HARING is a life-long Kansan. She started my educational career at Butler Community College then spent one year at Bethany before she earned a BSE from Emporia State University in Art Education and an MA from Wichita State University. Valerie is the Chair of the Art Department at Butler Community College where she has had the pleasure of teaching young artists for nearly 30 years. Valerie has two adult sons\, Jordon and Jaxon. Her life partner\, John Oehm\, is a fellow artist; they speak the same language. She calls herself a painter\, although throughout her career she has also made assemblages\, sculpture\, photography and digital prints. When Valerie reflects on her history as an artist\, it can be traced to her childhood. Her father is a collector of things; mostly cars. She loved to “find” objects and assembled odds-and-ends into artistic creations. Valerie’s mother kept her sister and herself busy with craft projects involving sewing and homemade clay. Valerie joyously roamed the wooded area close to their country home\, excited to discover a unique rock or odd animal bone. Valerie’s adulthood has been filled with intellectual\, personal and artistic discovery. In 2005\, she designed the construct of the striped composition in her art making. Valerie established some rules for herself which she tries to break without destroying the visual integrity of the piece. These experiences have become manifest in the artwork that she makes. \nArtist Statement:\nI am a formalist. The visual organization of images often supersedes my concerns for subject matter or narrative content. I strive to create a visual language inspired from images that I have garnered from the world around me. I experience the beauty and diversity of colors\, textures\, and shapes and reorganize and layer images into a strict construct of vertical and/or horizontal stripes. I often use my iPhone camera to capture images that may be used as reference material or layered into digital monoprints. I don’t consider myself a photographer\, but a painter who uses diverse materials ranging from oil on canvas\, to carved and “found” wood constructs\, and digital prints. My work is often nonrepresentational\, but I increasingly experience a longing to integrate bits of realistic imagery into the process in an attempt to hint at conceptualism. My work was born of a post-modern idea that the artist could make work by picking and choosing inspiration from the cultural warehouse of images that have grown out of the history of art-making\, literature\, modern society and personal experience. I am excited by the exploration of materials and processes of art making. I am suspect of things that come to fruition too easily. The struggle to make something that is true is one that I hold in high reverence. \nSee more of Valerie’s work online: https://valerieharing.wordpress.com/about/ and on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/valerie.haring.7 \nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nCOVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: \n\nAll events at Art House 310 are subject to change.\nHand sanitizer will be on site for use.\nArt House 310 will disinfect the public areas before and after any events.\nThere is no public restroom at Art House 310.\nProperly worn masks are strongly recommended when entering Art House 310 and we strongly encourage you to practice safe social distancing.\nWe ask that any purchases be done so with card payment in order to reduce the spread of germs.\nAnyone showing symptoms or feeling ill or have been exposed to Covid-19 should NOT enter Art House 310.\n\nWe appreciate your understanding and efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy. \nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. SUMMARY:Art House 310 First Friday - Charlotte Martin & Jim Simpson
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Charlotte Martin & Jim Simpson\nOpening Reception | First Friday November 6th\, 2020 | 6-10pm \nShow hangs through November 22nd. \nNATURE BASED – NATURE INSPIRED WORKS BY CHARLOTTE MARTIN AND JIM SIMPSON\nCHARLOTTE MARTIN received her BFA in painting / drawing from Wichita State University\, after studying at Arizona State University. \nHer fascination with nature began early in life\, and has only grown over time. Much of her work focuses on the smallest items – seeds\, seed pods\, small grasses\, roots\, and dead leaves. And\, of course\, there’s the interest in birds\, which continues to be part of her focus. \nJIM SIMPSON’s works have been included in Wichita Arts Council juried shows\, Kansas Watercolor 7-State Exhibitions\, National juried shows at Mark Arts\, and in private and corporate art collections. See a gallery of work at jimsimpsonartwork.com. Follow @jimsimpsonartwork on lnstagram and Facebook. \nJim’s process lets the image evolve on the surface…working up layers\, destroying parts\, letting others parts gleam through from underneath\, carving into previous layers. These actions all contribute to a richer image with depth and texture. His expressionistic imagery is primarily is focused on botanical and wildlife art. \nFind this event on Facebook HERE.\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nCOVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:\n– All events at Art House 310 are subject to change.\n– Hand sanitizer will be on site for use.\n– Art House 310 will disinfect the public areas before and after any events.\n– There is no public restroom at Art House 310.\n– Masks are required when entering Art House 310 and we strongly encourage you to practice safe social distancing.\n– We ask that any purchases be done so with card payment in order to reduce the spread of germs.\n– Limited capacity\, please wait on the patio if the gallery is too full.\n– Anyone showing symptoms or feeling ill should avoid entering Art House 310.\nWe appreciate your understanding and efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy. \nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. SUMMARY:Angie Evans | 2020 Art Super Sale!
DESCRIPTION:2020 Art Super Sale!\nSaturday\, June 27th | Opening | 6:00-10:00 pm\nDon’t miss the Angie Evans 2020 Art Super Sale! If you have had your eyes on a piece or two\, now is the chance to get your hands on it … at a super discounted price! All pre-2020 works will be marked up to 50% off! \nArtist Statement: \nI have been involved in the arts in Wichita for over 20 years. Starting with photography at an early age\, I continue to use the fundamental rules of composition and color theory to expand into other mediums. Since Fall of 2016\, I have been painting abstract fluid expressionism fine art using acrylics and other additives to achieve different patterns and textures within the painting. I get deeply involved in every step of the artistic process from helping my husband design and build the custom birch panels to managing all aspects of inventory and sales. While I appreciate the business side or being an artist\, the act of creating a piece from a blank panel is invigorating and without rules or restrictions. It is unlike any other creative work I have experienced. \nFor the duration of my art career leading up to Fall of 2016\, I have had a deep desire to draw and paint things with a good degree of realism but I have found that to be an area in which I struggle with wanting perfection. This style of fluid expressionism painting forces me to paint more freely and get excited for the somewhat unknown results. This technique uses a fairly quick process with a limited working time. Because of this\, my attention to the individual piece is fully engaged and I am able to create multiple pieces without loosing interest in the process or individual works. The process in which I paint with this fluid technique is extremely messy but very fulfilling. The act of pouring the paint mixtures directly onto the birch panels\, sometimes without any rhyme or reason at all\, creates a very freeing feeling and one that lends to the fluid motion of these pieces. \nI have always been drawn to the beauty of natural stone\, geode elements and gem stones and I strive to replicate some of those beautiful features in my art. To add an extra element of beauty\, each of my fluid expressionism pieces utilize an inclusion of shine or sparkle which may utilize metallic pigment or paint\, metal leaf or glitter. These elements allow the piece to come alive in different lighting situations and change throughout the day. All of my fluid expressionism pieces also utilize a final art archival formulated epoxy resin which creates a glass-like\, hardened finish. This resin finish creates unique depth and color saturation which is unachievable with other finishes. The resin process is an art in itself as I may often tint the resin with pigment or other additives to create more interest and depth within the piece. The resin process includes heat torching the resin coating to gas out any bubbles and impurities in order to have a flawless smooth glossy finish. \nEach piece I create mimics an element in nature. Many of my works replicate the beauty and motion of the sea while other pieces tend to have characteristics of natural earthly events such as thunderstorms or riptides. I am always in awe of the beauty of a sunset or the ocean breaking against the land and I strive to create works in which capture the unique beauty of these scenes in an abstract and interesting way. My color palette varies but often includes deep jewel tones and turquoise ocean hues. I have not found another technique that creates such beautiful motion and fluidity as these works. My hope is to create a sense of calmness and joy for the viewer as they engage in the visually pleasing color palettes and flowing movement within the piece. To add to this pleasing feeling\, I ensure that each piece is carefully finished with proper gallery ready backing and vast attention to each small detail. My desire for myself while creating these works and for the viewer after the piece is complete is only to be able to pause for a moment in time to truly take in something beautiful. \nwww.AngieEvansFineArt.com\nFacebook | @AngieAwesomePants\nInstagram | @AngieAwesomePants\nWe hold our exhibiting artists to a high standard of professionalism. SUMMARY:Art House 310 Grand Opening
DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 Grand Opening\nSaturday\, June 27th | 6:00-10:00 pm\nJoin us in celebrating our grand opening! After months of renovations and what can only be described as a “Labor of Love”\, we are ready to show the world\, or at least our little part in the ICT\, what we are all about! \nArt House 310 is a dream in the making! Art House 310 is a space for visual artists. Our mission is to help expand the arts in Wichita and be a resource for all artists alike. \nOwned and operated by Angie & Rhett Evans\, Art House 310 is a (likely never-ending) work in progress to become a space for art exhibitions\, workshops\, group shows and eventually the ability to offer private rentable art studios. We believe in Wichita. We believe in art. We believe some of the best talent is right in our back yard! \nWe decided to buy-in to this life … literally. We sold our home\, rented a loft in Old Town and used our own private investment to start building this dream. After what felt like an eternity of looking for a location\, including 3 other property deals that weren’t meant to be … Art House 310 finally has a home! We chose a location just off the beaten path to hopefully be a part of further growth in our downtown area. Our necessities included: space (but not too much)\, a close to downtown proximity\, an inviting street presence\, and blank exterior wall space for murals to help drive traffic to this “off the beaten path” area. What looks like a plain\, old little warehouse to some\, looked like a future to us! \nWe are so excited to see how Art House 310 will evolve! \nwww.ArtHouse310.com\nFacebook | @ArtHouse310\nInstagram | @ArtHouse310\nLEARN ABOUT WHAT ART HOUSE 310 IS DOING TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.\nCOVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:\nAll events at Art House 310 are subject to change.\nHand sanitizer will be on site for use.\nArt House 310 will disinfect the public areas before and after any events.\nThere is no public restroom at Art House 310.\nWe strongly encourage you to wear a mask and practice safe social distancing.\nWe ask that any purchases be done so with card payment in order to reduce the spread of germs.\nAnyone showing symptoms or feeling ill should avoid entering Art House 310.\nWe appreciate your understanding and efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy.
