DESCRIPTION:Art House 310 First Friday – Shelby Robertson & Sierra Swift\nOpening Reception | First Friday August 4th\, 2023 | 6-10pm\nThis event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through August 20th\, 2023. \nArt House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita. \nSHELBY ROBERTSON \nShelby Robertson’s art focuses on portraying mental and physical illnesses through conceptual illustrations. \nThey mainly use traditional mediums to create their work. They focus on pen and ink because they feel like the stark contrast between black and white can help to leave a stronger impression and benefits the subject matter. \nA majority of their work is an outlet as a way for them to express themselves without having to talk about it. Some of their pieces are understandable while others are vague\, but all of the pieces have meaning. If you get it you get it\, and if you don’t\, you don’t. Pain is not something that can be simplified into a few words\, and it is different for everyone. Hopefully\, these illustrations are able to convey these issues in a way that is accessible to anyone. \nSee more of Shelby’s work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drawingwoe/ \nSIERRA SWIFT \nSierra Swift is a representational artist who primarily works in digital mediums\, though will also work in paint\, ink\, and watercolors to create traditional art pieces. \nHer work is meant to reflect the comforts and joy in life\, despite the pain and despair that often surrounds it. Her artwork is often focused on beautiful things and looks to capture on canvas and print subjects that spark comfort. \nThis body of work she has created are portraits that represent in one way or another the cats in her life.
