This event is free to attend and open to the public. Show hangs through October 25th, 2026. Art House 310 is located at 310 S. Laura. Two blocks SE of Douglas & Washington in downtown Wichita.
NOTE: Open gallery hours throughout the exhibition are generally Tuesday and Thursday, 6-9pm and Sunday, 1-4pm.* These hour may vary so check our social media for weekly open gallery hours.
RHETT EVANS
I started woodworking about 10 years ago by building my wife wooden panels for her to paint on. Eventually that lead to a deeper love for wood working and all the cool things that can be made. When Art House 310 was born in 2019, I had enough room to start putting together a real wood shop. Now I was able to have proper machinery and started working on my skills by building small projects. Once I was somewhat confident, I bought some plans and built the rocking chair and side table, and the cherry lounge chair. These projects were extremely different than what I was used to and really tested my ability to try new things and learn new skills.
Fast forward a couple years and a friend of mine who is an engineer had a home-built CNC that he wanted to get rid of. I took the challenge and learned how to use CAD/CAM software and how a CNC works on the inside. About two years later I had a pretty good handle on carving wood on the CNC and was ready for an upgrade. The old small home-built CNC just wasn’t doing what I wanted it to do.
Once the new CNC was assembled this past March, I had carvings to make. Every piece here was cut into strips and glued together to create stability in the wood, so it stays flat after it is carved. I attempted to select wood that would complement the design both in color and grain structure. The designs were purchased from digital artists with skills I have not yet mastered. These designs needed to show the level of detail I was looking for to really show off some intricate carvings. Some were chosen because they had fluid movement and a lot of depth and others are just fun! After this show I will be teaching myself how to design the files needed for a 3D CNC carve.
This show is a journey of developing my woodworking and CNC skills into a displayable work of art. I hope you enjoy it.

JOSH JOHNICO
Josh Johnico is a contemporary Native artist based in Wichita, KS. Through his paintings, Josh works to give concepts new life, often painting his own take on black and white photos. Josh prides himself on his use of dynamic colors, rich textures, and layers of original imagery to tell stories. Josh’s catalog also houses a significant body of abstract work. In these pieces, viewers are invited to discover hidden images, facial structures, and various symbolic elements embedded within the vibrant forms. Like his portraiture, his abstract creations utilize a bold color palette and are designed to be appreciated from every angle, offering multiple perspectives and interpretations.
