Good Day Kansas Feature – Keeper 150 – Angie Evans
by: Jillian Carroll
I have had a great time hearing the stories behind the mini keeper statues scattered across the Wichita Metro area! Today I enjoyed meeting Artist Angie Evans and hearing her journey through bringing art to Wichita! She and her husband recently opened Art House 310 a space for visual artists. Angie and the Team at Art House 310 maintains the mission to help expand the arts in Wichita and be a resource for all artists alike.
We actually got to meet her at Art House 310 and took a quick tour of the space! We made our way to the back and met “The Big Guy” the mini keeper Angie was commissioned to work on. As you can see the mini keeper statue towers above sweet little Angie, but she doesn’t let that get in her way! She got very creative with turning him on his side, flipping him over propping him up against the wall and climbing a ladder to ensure every inch of “The Big Guy” was painted perfectly.
Angie knew this statue would be laced at Stryker Sports Complex so she was so to include a message to the young athletes that will be walking passed it on their way to their games and practices. The messages: “Never Give Up” and “Wichita Strong” are both visible along with the bright blue and yellow colors to coordinate with Stryker Sports Complex‘s branding. If you have time to swing by the gorgeous new facility be sure to stop in and snap a photo with “The Big Guy” and bring the kiddos to ignite passion for Wichita and to remind them to “Never Give Up”
Thanks to the City of Wichita for producing these interviews on each of the 150th Keepers!
